7#$ / (((((((.,,,, ,,,*,x(VF-X -x.*/ (.-N../......Q: Hi Doc, I have a situation that came up and I could really use your guidence. I will be making a presentation to a company. I want to be able to screen and educate their employees on chiropractic and get them as patients. I woud have liked to use ergonomics to educate the workers. But no can do, at the time of my presentation there will be two people there, one is the H.R. person the other has his/her PhD in ergonomics. I have 30 min. to educate them? How should I approach this so that I am different and that they would need me? Also, I want to do this without looking like I am promotiong my business. I can speak about C.N.S. and stress I have a degree in nutrition also, should I speak about workmans comp? Anything you can think of that could help me I would greatly appreciate. This is the first time I am doing this and I am a little nervous. A: Thanks for the e-mail. I'm sort of confused about this program .. were you invited to present a program to a safety committee or is this a date you scheduled and you are presenting a program? I receommend you refrain from mentioning WC until you are invited back .. it is a danger for companies to invite an outside person and the next day all their employees run to doctors with wrist and back problems that you discussed was possibly caused on the job. Once in the door .. you can work out some pilot programs but this is for a later date. If this meeting is to discuss a future program with this company, then a general overview of ergonomics is called for .. even if they have a Phd. in ergonomics sitting there. The term ergonomics is very broad .. and your being on site is to focus on Structure (Posture) and Wellness as it applies to both the workstation and their lifestyle. For instance .. do they (the employees) work in their garden .. do the laundry .. play golf or tennis .. go to a gym .. have the averge dose of stress .. then they are ready to hear your message. Now .. include the physical stress of their work requirements .. sitting .. standing .. lifting .. whatever. As a strutural scientist .. what we DC's are .. we focus our attention of the relationship of Human Structure to Human Function .. Posture and Health and how it applies to their work and social enviornment. This is where it's at. If your meeting is to discuss this project with a few folks from the company and they will decide whether your program is useful .. then you must approach it as your workshop being a part of your on going Community Outreach Programs. Part of this effort is community workshops on various subjects .. Ergonomics .. Stress Management .. Exercise and Nutrition .. Prevention and Wellness .. as well as others. It would be best to offer the Staying Fit While you Sit or Safety in the Workplace workshop with specific stretch exercises included. If you own my Smart Start Book look through Chapters 3 and 7. Below is from Chapter Three .. what should be discussed with the group to assure yourself a time to speak to their employees. Chapter 7 is the workshop word for word as well as others. Also .. visit my webpage and look under Practice Tips and scrool down .. there are a number of workshops there. Also under weblinks .. I have a numnber of ergonomic links there .. I am adding all the time .. some will work some not. (http://www.mindspring.com/~chirosmart) Don't solicit .. have everyone fill out a survey (found in chapter 7) and use that to gather names they can make note of their interest in an evaluation by completing the bottom of the survey. If you live near Life University .. and you have time .. visit me when I am on campus Tuesday from 8-11 class 127C and office hours 11-12 in annex B Chiro Sciences. Set aside time, usually one or two mornings each week, for outside contacts. This time is either to meet people or present your workshops. A well oiled marketing office has on-going programs and meetings on a constant basis. When you get too busy to do this yourself, train a public relations person to do it for you .. even the programs. A meeting with the person in charge must be prepared in advance. Be able to discuss the purpose of this meeting. Mr. Smith, the purpose of this meeting is to let you know about my Wellness Programs for this year. I have been presenting Ergonomic Programs for local corporations for many years and I have found that too often employees wait for a crisis prior to finding a solution for their health care needs. This develops into reduced employee work potential, lost work hours, and less production. As a health care provider, I often see people coming in my office after suffering for months and some for years. My solution is education. I want to be a team player with your company and provide educational -- ergonomic workshops on a timely basis. These programs will go over conservative exercises, stress management, workstation evaluations, and lifestyle changes. Pro-active companies are looking for these programs and I have been doing these for years. Be prepared to answer questions: Always volunteer answers when asked and never delve into a long story to win over a person with fluff. You may have an interesting article about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or Stress .. bring that up .. but be cautious .. add if needed only. What if they ask for details of what you wish to do? Were scheduling workshops for the entire year. Id like to lock in one program a month for you. You said you have 150 employees .. I can do two programs a day with 25-30 employees per class. Over a period of a year everyone will have the information. At the conclusion of each workshop, well have time for a stress evaluation for those interested. We can also provide a few lunch and learn programs on various health related topics .. this will be voluntary and will be during the lunch hour. Also, Id like to be on call for any of your employees that have questions about their specific health concerns, as well as provide you with a Safety -- Ergonomic Evaluation after walking through your facility. Another program that may interest you is sending a few of your workers compensation cases to me and lets determine if chiropractic care gets them well faster, and allow them to be productive quicker than what you have experienced in the past. Id like to schedule the dates now. The cost? Well, the first program is free, each additional day is a nominal $100. The purpose of these proposals and workshops is to meet more people within your community. If a company endorses you and allows you access to their employee base ... well, youll be way ahead of the game. Ideally you should have a calendar of programs booked months in advance. The ideal office has a constant stream of new patients with referrals from those that come. It would be a great day when you can literally have a waiting list practice. This is possible only when you visualize the possibility and work at it. Programs should be offered to local companies within your farm and to others that have access to people who live near your office. In the beginning do as many programs as possible and wherever. It will take time and energy to get all the kinks out of your talks and be able, with full confidence and power, to give the workshops as comfortable as youll like. Dont hard sell chiropractic .. be kind and offer them, as a community service, a complimentary evaluation, to be on your mailing list, or attend your in-office workshops, etc. Those people who attend your workshops and have a concern will take this opportunity to discuss their concerns with you. Your survey sheet, that each person completes should have room for them to check off their interest to either attend a complimentary evaluation or discuss with you their concerns either by calling the office or having you directly call them at home. uso at your office y completing the bottom of the . % MultiModule % Picture Frame %Ripple %Ripple ^4 b8 !!!/!1 @He; R`abef C !">LX `ijz.7;kt.4LMLٙәٙ˙ ! ! ! \Y`an"} ! u ! @ ` QHe; R`abef C !
