Winners and Losers Please forgive this last baseball analogy but in this year¼s World Series there were no winners and losers .. it¼s all in how they played the game. Living in Atlanta .. I favored the Braves. Being born and bred in Brooklyn, NY .. over 20 years worth .. I was first a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers then the Mets but always „hated¾ the Yankees. Amongst these three teams .. each standing proud of their accomplishments .. only one would stand with the trophy at the end. My hat is tipped to the Yanks as they showed true grit and heart in yesterday¼s win. It was obvious they played with team spirit .. unified purpose .. focus and was all business. It seemed to me the opposite was true of the Braves .. they were anything but focused .. unified .. on purpose. As I watched the last out of the final game being caught and the rush to the mound with hugs and emotion .. commentaries began to speak of lost fathers .. recent health issues and other adversities the Yankees faced this year while reaching their ultimate goal. Locker room interviews revealed humility and pride .. I was proud of the Yankees .. their performance .. the heritage they preserved and honored. They are truly the baseball team of the decade .. the century. The Braves also climbed difficult heights to reach their place in history. This year they lost many key players to injury and illness while others played with chronic injuries. Rather than retreating and waiting for another year they used utility players and less character actors to achieve the outstanding statistic of the most wins in the major leagues. In this series they didn¼t perform at their peak .. they may have looked tired and not focused .. but they made it to the party and deserved every inning of play. The lesson is clear .. while only one team held the trophy .. no team left a winner or loser .. they all won. Winners and Losers .. let¼s see. Look at your practice .. either professionally or student clinic. If you haven¼t taken the time to organize your thoughts .. found time for staff discussions and training .. created awareness for your patients about chiropractic .. challenged your comfort zone and opened a dialogue with your community .. reviewed office procedures to streamline and make efficient then who are the winners or losers? It¼s all in how you play the game. Caring for people .. having compassion .. listening and willing with healing hands is the best game in town. Those you touch will all be winners. Take time from your busy schedule and determine who are the winners and losers within your professional world. Make sure the safety net is placed and bolster the weak areas so service is foremost and caring is paramount. Have staff trained to augment your purpose creating a win-win for everyone. If adversity is present think of it as nothing more than a challenge .. reaching the goal may be harder but the outcome will be sweeter. Personally .. I am once again deeply disappointed that I will not be able to teach my class at Life University as I have these past three years. There will be no winners as the petty politics and shortsightedness of those making this decision will gain no ground .. as their purpose of educational excellence just went down a notch. Their end product must always be well trained professionals able to establish their niche in an ever changing healthcare and business world. In this case there will be losers .. the students.
