A patient came in this week all stressed out and way out of adjustment. Seems her father had a stroke and he was in the hospital for almost two months under intensive care and then rehabilitation. The bill .. $82,000. I went to my dentist to replace a broken tooth .. he recommended a root canal and crown .. fee $950. I pulled out my credit card .. the patient¼s father pulled out his Medicare card .. but if we both valued our health .. or what was left of it .. cost wasn¼t a factor. Just a thought .. if you are hung up about what an adjustment is worth and feel it is priceless therefore worth(less) think again. Place a value to your education .. training .. office overhead .. ability to maintain a professional clinic .. look your kids in the eye and then ask yourself if there is a value to what we do. I think so .. just be sure your patient thinks so as well. Be affordable ..be generous .. be available .. be humble .. but don¼t give it away. If you have been reading my weekly e-mails .. you know I attempt to offer both thought provoking commentaries as well as practical practice tips. Obviously .. it¼s my point of view .. but there is also value in them. I¼ve been there and still am. The trenches are right outside my office door and creating a successful profitable practice is as difficult and overwhelming for me as the doctor down the street. Recently .. I discussed planning and providing Ergonomic workshops for your corporate neighbors. I gave two this week and have another two planned shortly. Let me tell you .. after speaking to about 20 people during a „Lunch and Learn¾ one day and about 15 the next .. giving of my valuable time to assist the value of the company¼s employees .. I felt my time was well spent. But .. what was so outstanding is the potential that these workshops provide. Everyone left with information they could share with others. Everyone left the conference room with handouts outlining structural (spinal) biomechanics and the role of chiropractic towards their Health and Wellness. Everyone left with my card and I left with everyone¼s survey completed .. including those wishing evaluations. Was this valuable .. you bet! He really doesn¼t want his new baby to get all of the vaccinations that are required. I don't want my child to be restricted from school and us pressured into this by the school system or the medical doctor. Does anyone know how to get around this with the Illinois laws.
