Searching This week I was provided an opportunity to review my years of chiropractic practice as well as retrieve a pleasant professional experience. Both required flashbacks of how my chiropractic journey influenced me personally and professionally. First it was an enjoyable dinner with a colleague, thanks Jamie, on his own quest to find common threads of success within a doctor's practice and beyond. Questions ranged from professional definitions to a wish list and what differently would I do. This reminded me of my freshman year of college English composition. The first homework assignment was to write our obituary within two short paragraphs. No easy task as what part is left out and how much can you cram into two very short paragraphs. After a futile attempt of additions and eliminations the crystal clear you was there for all to read. It wasn't easy but there it was. Very similar to these skillful dinner questions with my spontaneous answers seeking a rationale for lifetime decisions. Professional mentors, ideas towards reaching goals, skillful staff hiring and retention, useful professional procedures, technical and esoteric seminars explored and where practice protocol merged with personal reality. Possibly the interview was meant to stimulate thought for the interviewer but on the contrary, I left intrigued and focused on completing each question towards a successful conclusion with a second chance to succeed. Second was an e-mail appeal from a student during my years teaching at Life University. They wanted a copy of my class syllabus. Since my years of teaching was from 1995 until 1999 the possibility of having a copy was remote at best. But during my search for positive memories mentoring others, I energized a renewed commitment to our great profession. I found student records, tests and grades and within each opened drawer, papers were found with similar positive dated memories. Doctor, we have a fresh start as the year 2010 just opened for business. Your resolution is to find a mentor or colleague to be accountable to. Resolve this year to boost your income with increased service and renewed commitment to exceed. Resolve to seek increased commitment from staff and patients via a reinvigorated level of education and passion for health and wellness. Resolve to ask less from them as you would yourself, family and friends. Search for the passion that brought you to the dance called chiropractic. If you lost the steps search for those colleagues and coaches that can lead you back to the dance floor. There is a dance of life and we need to lead the way. Thanks for those that lead me on my search this week and for all your e-mails and support that leads me day to day. Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
