Q: I am sizing up the budget to take my office team to Parker in Las Vegas in January (looks to be an awesome weekend), and I am wondering about my obligations to pay for my CA's. I did use your Smart Start employment contract which states that salary will not be paid for seminar/continuing ed. time, and thatžs fine, but. Ižm am wondering about travel and meals and room. I am assuming the room expense is mine to pick up for them, then with travel, when driving is an option, what do I cover, and what about their meals for the 3 days ? I look forward to your take on those questions, thank you very much. A: Thanks for the e-mail and I am sorry to be so delayed in the reply. I feel that all expenses should be yours for out of town seminars. This will include the air fare .. hotel fee and a per diem expense for food .. lets say $20 a day. Expenses for a rental car or shows etc is all theirs. If you eat together than you pay for them and reduce the food expense accordingly. Just consider that breakfast should cost no more than $6 and lunch and dinner $10 each. If you have two CA's they share a room .. just place all your hotel expenses on your bill .. this may also include their use of the hotel room for their food. Be sure to get together each evening for a pow wow meeting .. at least an hour .. to leisurely go over what you learned and how each staff member thinks they can implement it. This is crucial to make the seminar time beneficial. If there are any objections or resistance to making changes try to work out the kinks their rather than Monday Morning. Have a Great Day Dr. M
