Q: Hi Dr. M Your workbook may indeed be what I need. Here's the deal. I'm working with a consultant who keeps saying "Go out and do talks." My wife, a former event planner and presenter, says "Go out and do talks." For these people it would be quite natural to design a talk and then go present it. I'm not them. I've got no problem doing the actual talk. Speaking in front of groups is not the concern. Problem is that I'm NOT an expert on the topics that I have to talk about. Nobody's going to sign up for a presentation on the subluxation. External marketing requires talking about stuff that I'm not an expert on. So I feel this need to have accurate information from an expert that I can then bring to the market and present. So, my question is whether your book would be of value to me. Does it give me the presentations that I can then take and present? A: Thanks for the e-mail. First .. you are an expert in biomechanics and this gives you an edge. The majority of people you will be speaking to are not interested in reams of data and specifics .. they need and want basic digestible information that allows them to make lifestyle changes. You name the topic and you probably have an ability to speak clerarly about it and make sense. A class on aging .. what I call "Aging Gracefully." Don't you think you can relate to their basic concern to be mobile as they age .. to avoid falling and breaking hips .. to keep flexible with conservative exercises. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to mention these points to them and possibly show them what to and not to do. Same for the clerical or computer person. Their concern is to last the years they need to work. Thier physical problems relate to wear and tear of the neck . shoulders and lower back. How many patients do you see with these problems and you know would have been better off if you came to their workplace and discussed ergonomics .. Fitting them to their Workstation. Again .. forget the specifics .. they don't care .. just relate to what they do and they'll be happy and better off. Don't you think you can discuss the importance of posture .. anatomy .. and physical health? Discuss a muscle and ligament .. mobility and stability and how they must do specific things during their work day .. as well as at home .. to avoid chronic wear and tear. An expert .. no need to be one to go over basic stretch exercises .. discuss the best way to avoid carpal tunnel .. again stretch exercises and the like. My webpage has a section called weblinks .. you'll find many websites concerning ergonomics to get you educated. Should I go on .. attorney workshops along with their paralegals is also easy .. my PI Workbook has the entire workshop in there and all the data you need to make you an expert. My Workshop Workbook has actual workshops with all the materila needed to get out the word and my Marketing and Public Relations Book gets you off the ground. All I ask is that you follow the advice of those that wish you to grow. Speaking isn't the only way to meet and greet new people but it sures helps. In my 22 years of practice I've given about 90 ergonomic and wellness workshops and my level of knowledge will not pass an engineer .. but I probably wouldn't speak before their group either. Remember .. you are not on stage to perform .. just to educate. Listen to your heart .. presentations are easy .. getting in their to do it is the hard part. Who is your consultant .. I'm sure they have material for you. Have a Great Day Dr. M
