Q: Hey Dr. M, I am very excited, I am giving a presentation on chiropractic/Ergonomics in the workplace next week at a corporation in Norcross. I plan to basically do a detailed ROF mixed with the info. from Smart Start on Staying Fit while Sit Workshop, discussing ATD/RSI using the same script. I have a book from 95, is the script the same, or has it been updated? I downloaded the workbook, in which I plan to utilize in the presentation, and I would like to know where I can purchase the "Slides". Props I plan to use are: 1. Garden Hose 2. Rubber Bands 3. Degenerative anatomical model from Back Talk Systems/ Plastic Full Spine 4. 2 posters-Nervous System, and the lateral cervical, 3 phases of degeneration 5. Along with the slide presentation A packet will be given to each person consisting of stretches/exercises, work stress survey, information from the workbook explaining chiropractic and stress. Any other suggestions? Do you have a video tape of a presentation you have given in the past? A: The script is the same .. but follow the guidelines as outlined in the beginning of chapter 7. Either write down the terms on a blackboard .. always take with you a number of colored dry erase pencils .. write on their board or on a paper. You may wish to have a handout of these initial terms .. Ergonomics .. Accumulative Trauma Disorders .. Chronic Sprain/Strain (relationship between muscles and ligaments .. have a strong rubber band with you to demonstrate the ligaments and how it stretches .. excess stretch equals micro tears .. looking into a microscope you'll see these before it'll break .. the body protects itself from these breaks and unstable conditions with fibrous and scar tissue .. less elastic and reduces range of motion and flexibility resulting in joint instability .. purpose of you being there) .. List areas of the spine .. cervicals = neck/arm/numbness/pain/shoulder/carpal tunnel/TMJ .. thoracic = digestive ..lumbar = lower back/buttock/muscle cramps/leg numb and pain .. Action steps .. exercises .. ergonomics at their workstation .. evaluation .. changes Be sure they all fill out the survey prior to your talk and stand at the door and shake as many hands as possible as they walk in .. introduce yourself as you shake hands. Have all the material either on their chair or the table in front of the chair .. every one should have a rubber band for the stretch of the finger exercises .. Go to a Target store and see if the toy department have the nerf balls .. 5 for $5 or so .. get about 20 everyone should have one .. not to take home but to use now .. (don't panic if you donžt have any .. good to have for future) .. prepare a rolled sock to demonstrate what they can do at home and bring to work instead of the nerf ball .. squeezing it in the palm of their hands as well as at the fingertip level. I do not have any slides to share with you ..I purchase mine at Singer .. it is a combination of a few of them .. In terms of video .. I do have something .. not me doing it .. but I'd have to look around .. we moved to this office last September and some things are still scattered about. If you have sometime .. we can go over the workshop if you can meet me at my office. Thursday .. tomorrow .. is a good time at 6PM .. or at the school .. I teach from 7-9 and have office hours from 9-10 .. we can go over everything then .. but you may be working then. Call me at 770-491-3639 to discuss this if you have the time.. I can meet with you at other times if it can be arranged after hours. Good Luck .. but be sure to create times that are available for an evaluation at your office ..offer it to them as a necessary step to have a baseline understanding of their level of fitness and stress.
