Q: Dr.Margolies: I am writing you today regarding my brother. He is out of school 1 year now and is working in New York for a private practice but does not have medical insurance through his boss. He has an individual policy and pays a tremendous amount of money each month. Is there a group insurance plan for DCs A: Thanks for your e-mail. Unfortunately there are many people without or with little health insurance due to high monthly premiums. As far as I know .. the only DC insurance plans are through the ACA or ICA as well as many state associations. These plans are as a group and also has high premiums. There are five answers here. One is to call the national and state associations and ask them to send you their group insurance policies. The drawback is that membership is probably a requirement. Second is to ask the DC you work for to call their personal insurance company and see if you can be included and have them share 50% of the premium with the cost taken out of your salary. Third is to call a local independent insurance broker .. look in the yellow pages .. and shop for a policy that you can afford and hope never to use. Fourth is to find a policy and sign up with a very high deductible .. like $2000 .. where the premium is lower but the catastrophic care is available when needed. Fifth is to hold your breath take good care of yourself and wait until you can afford proper coverage.
