February 6 , 2004 Chancellor resigns; Palmer realigns with Dr. Don Kern as interim president The Palmer Chiropractic University System has a new structure and a new interim president. Effective with the immediate resignation of chancellor Guy F. Riekeman, DC, the school¼s Board of Trustees took action Feb. 5 to realign the university¼s administrative team and refocus on critical topics. Vickie Anne Palmer, chair of the Board of Trustees, announced the team of administrators identified to lead, effective immediately, each college on an interim basis: Ä Don Kern, DC, has been appointed interim president of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Kern has held several leadership positions with Palmer, including serving as president of Palmer College of Chiropractic Davenport from 1987 until 1994. Since 2002 he has been senior campus administrator, Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida. Ä Bob Lee, because of his background and experience, will be helping lead Palmer College of Chiropractic West, San Jose, Calif., during this period. Ä Gloria Niles, DC, remains academic dean at Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida at Port Orange, Fla. Ä Doug Hoyle, PhD. will assume all responsibilities for institutional research, planning and accreditation. Tom Tiemeier will assume responsibility for the areas formerly held by Bill Jarr, who is no longer employed by Palmer University. „The Palmer Chiropractic University System will continue to operate under the leadership of the Board of Trustees as it explores ‚ with the assistance of faculty, staff, students, alumni and the community ã greater integration of our campuses and programs in the delivery of education based on the Palmer Chiropractic Tenets and Principles, including a primary focus on chiropractic adjustment and a recognition of the significance of the nervous system to health and the effect of the subluxation complex upon the nervous system,¾ Palmer said. „We believe there is no better institution to lead the chiropractic profession than the Palmer Chiropractic University System, and we are committed to securing the future of Palmer for another 109 years,¾ she added. „Palmer Chiropractic remains committed to the practices of good governance for institutions of higher education, and the Board of Trustees reaffirmed its oversight role of Palmer Chiropractic University System.¾ Palmer Chiropractic University System¼s activities and programs will continue as planned, the board announced. The Board of Trustees also announced that Palmer College of Chiropractic's $35 million capital campaign -- now more than half way to the goal ‚ remains vital to the creation of a new learning resource center in Davenport for students, teachers and researchers. Palmer College of Chiropractic has more than 40,000 alumni . The Palmer Chiropractic University System was created in February 1991, bringing Palmer College of Chiropractic and Palmer College of Chiropractic West, established in 1980, in San Jose, Calif., together under the same Board of Trustees. Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida at Port Orange, Fla. was added in 2002. Total current enrollment is approximately 2,400 at all three campuses; total full and part-time employment is 553.
