Persistence A killer of most efforts is not following through. There must be a cosmic excuse given at birth and fine tuned later in life that provides us the useless energy of excuse. Did you want to lose weight, exercise more, find time to meditate, go on vacations more with desire replaced with excuse. We start with strong determination and backbone, but with the slightest delay of success or deviation from our intended goal the focus and mindset shift to the next project finding ourselves layering excuse upon excuse. We need accountability, someone watching over our goals and ideas making sure we follow through. Do you have that someone? How about your staff? Having your staff read my e-mails, a good idea by the way gets you on the same page and offers a topic for discussion. Discussion to action steps and implementation is the key to success. The usual culprit for lack of follow through is you, the doctor. After a dynamic weekend seminar the doctor returns Monday morning to the office full of excitement and enthusiasm ready to rock and roll. Demands and changes are immediately implemented and if history is any guide, this lasts no more than a week then more of the same. Has this happened to you? Do you expect your staff to be as enthusiastic as you when you left them home rather than bringing them with you to the seminar and being a part of the action? Sharing with them urges accountability because the goals are the same and the roadmap has been set with clear goals ahead. Take your patient. If you begin their care with an extensive and dynamic evaluation telling them the whole chiropractic story backwards from zygotes to atlas they begin their journey with you excited, ready to get well, ready for their power to be turned on, ready for you to guide them in a new health and wellness direction, ready for your anticipated workshop, ready to refer others with the material you promised to provide them only to find they lose that day one enthusiasm as everything becomes routine, education stops and the enter the area of office malaise and redundancy. You did not follow through and no one was accountable for the patient. How about your level of skill for example. Often the best practice builder is a new technique, a new slant towards the same 26 spinal bones, a new desire to see new patients and make changes in their lives, just something new. When was the last time you renewed your knowledge level in one if not all of the techniques you use? When did you last spend quality time sharing ideas and methods with colleagues in the hallways and during seminar time? When was the last time you took your continuing education courses seriously rather than filling out a card and taking off? Doctor, how many thousands of dollars does it take to run from one seminar to another until you stop .. listen .. implement? How many days of pure frustration do you have to go through while others get the results that you have not? How many stressful moments between staff and doctor, office and patients prior to realizing that you continue to go against the flow? Persistence is the key. Stick to an idea, work it and use it and hang in there with it. The art of success is knowing when to jump to the next ship not jumping from port to port. Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
