Practice Maintenance A successful practice has many components working in synch with each other. Besides a marketing vehicle that drives in new patients, a well-oiled practice maintains those already there and regains those that were left behind. Better yet, a well-oiled practice oozes with success by having a handle on patient referrals and owns their community supplying them with the good news of chiropractic. Value for understanding and corrective and maintenance care is the key word and button that needs timely pushing. A patient must see the vision you had when you first saw them. I don't know about you, but with my 30 years of experience, it doesn't take an x- ray to tell me where to adjust and it doesn't take an hour of consulting prior to my decision making and it doesn't take my patient's long to see that our goals are similar, find it, fix it, maintain it, educate them and in turn they share the good news with others. That's my mission and I'm sticking by it. Practice management 101 stipulates that we must demonstrate value and provide a semblance of sense to their need for repetitive care. This is where the report of findings is so crucial. Granted the first impression was during the consultation or even before that with the phone call to your office and the exchange between them and your front desk. This first impression is stamped in their minds and sets in motion their desire to learn more. Therefore, be sure to evaluate your office perception and overall staff impressions. To report beyond the consultation, do you use visual and/or written reports? We have various avenues to explore. Whether you need report of findings educational booklets, written report handouts, posters, audio and DVDs, our professional vendors have the answers. Diagnostic testing units and technical adjusting tools all have educational components. Personally, my report is a copy of patient x-rays taken with my digital camera, copies of their posture either with PosturePro or Bodyzone, Foot Leveler images of their stance and my recommendations for both short and long term. I recently included a useful and easy analysis of patient range of motion with a Ty-Q unit. This is an affordable diagnostic tool that makes treatment criteria and patient progress easy to understand. I recommend you visit their website: www.TY-Q.com and watch their demo page. Patients with limited ROM, especially with correlating radiological findings, should be initially tested and progressive testing will demonstrate objective progress besides their perceived sense of relief. We practice in the time of documentation and the more, easier the better, the better for you and the patient. Make it simple but powerful. Visualization is crucial for them to see progress and provide you with the strength for your recommendations. This is a crucial step toward successful practice maintenance.
