Our original law was written in 1921 with some revisions painfully pushed through during the years. All factions of our profession have finally banded together and agreed that we needa revised law and have agreed on the verbiage bringing us up to date before we are excluded from some insurance benefits, as well as offering our patients the services they need without being at risk of practicing outside our scope. Our fate is in the hands of many individuals that often see little value of our great profession. I graduated in 1978 and like many veterans, I can relate various times during these years when our profession was in jeopardy and our financial strength was in the hands of others. There are many detractors that are unrelenting, for example the recent anti-chiropractic billboards and active anti-quackery organizations that never sleep and wish us ill will. As an organized group, we have never been unified or organized. Rather than working in unity, splinter groups of differing points of view gnashed their teeth in print and in deed. To this day, not much has changed. So it is refreshing to see that our two state organizations, LUCC and the Georgia Board of Examiners are on the same page to secure our fate and not let others pull our strings. It is also refreshing that once the billboards were brought to our attention, grass root efforts were made to bring them down. We are now more vigilant and will not let others disparage our honored profession or discount the daily clinical results our patients receive from our humble hands. As I write this e-mail, we anticipate that any day our scope law will be introduced to the state senate and from there to the governor to sign. Our state associations have asked each member and hopefully every licensed doctor to contact their senators to be on the alert for this bill and agree to its provisions. Our legislatures, like potential patients, have little understanding of the value of chiropractic and once educated as well as sense the sincerity of their constituents will vote accordingly. Politics are never pleasant but it is the vehicle that runs our life. Getting involved for many is very unpleasant but a necessary price to pay to be in control of your fate. Contact your state association and contribute to their political action committees and ask how best you can help. Their financial strength results in the financial strength of us all. Sitting on the sidelines while others work for you is being part of the problem rather than an advocate of the solution. Get active and be in control of your fate Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: NE Atlanta DC needs a cover DC for his practice from April 3 thru the 7th: Would prefer individual doctor and not a relief service.
