Q: Doc, Today I gave a Stress Management Workshop right out of your Smart Start book to 20 employees at the local HiFi Buy. Nervous as Hell, but I got my point across and will now reap the benefits of two new patients. Just dropping you a note of thanks for your help. Also, I am starting up six patients next week. One is from a Chamber of Commerce function I attended last Tuesday, others are referrals. A: Great News .. did you have surveys and addresses of all those that attended? Did you give them some handouts to remind them of you? Did you discuss further workshops or possible faxed or hand delivered flyers concerning wellness and health and ergonomics to that manager so you can have your name before them each month? Did you ask the contact person to write you a kind letter acknowledging the workshop so you can begin to collect written letters of credibility? Did you also ask this lead person for further leads in the area or where she may attend social or church functions? Finally .. from that feeling of accomplishment .. did you walk to a few other larger businesses (some auto dealerships .. Sams's .. SportsLife.. etc.) and when the hormone level was still high go for the gold and ask to speak with their management and book other dates? This is how it's done .... Keep up the good work and plant those seeds .. be sure to service these new patients well and don't be afraid or embarrassed to allow them to help you grow .. be up front .. tell them you just opened .. you have a purpose and mission .. that you want to be part of the health care solution not the problem and you need their help to tell others. Set aside one morning ..one lunch time and one evening new patient or orientation workshop in your office a week .. plan to do them and then fill these dates with people .. parents and older folks in the mornings .. lunch time folks for the mid day and regular patients in the evening .. even if no one shows up .. be a good solider and be there .. but always visualize filling the room. Contact some health oriented places .. spas .. healthfood stores .. and the like .. tell them you want to create a community wellness program .. an alliance between all of them .. a sharing of knowledge .. a collective lecture .. flyers within all their facilities .. promoting your services for local corporations for health fairs. listen .. drive down all the side streets inyour farm .. there are some larger corporations .. search your farm for these corporate numbers and contact the folks in HR or safety .. offer you and the other services for a health fair .. Lunch and Learn .. Informational table during the day .. etc. This is how it's done .. Have a Great Day Dr. M
