This is the Southern Educational accrediting agency that questioned the financial feasibility of LUCC. No news concerning the CCE .. students are finished with the quarter this week and await the final decision of the CCE concerning the school¼s appeal. Many are leaving or have left. Kelly Stephens .. Thanksgiving .. Christmas .. New Year. Depending on how you approach this time of year it could wind up as either feast or famine. Listening to your colleagues .. you'll find that many have no let up of patient and office momentum while others find that their numbers drop and they struggle to recoup the momentum until after the New Year. So I propose that you decide if you want feast or famine .. do you need an early vacation with fewer new patients and fewer active patients following their scheduled visits or do you desire a full plate of new patients with present patients assisting in bringing in new ones. There is enough time to prepare and gather momentum for the coming harvest and feast on the good tidings throughout the New Year. Every holiday offers us an opportunity to reach more people with healthy choices and thought. I outlined a number of ideas including this holiday period in a recent article I wrote for Chiropractic Products magazine. Check their website and use their search engine to search my name to retrieve my articles: www.chiropub.com . We are generally a very giving profession. It is not unusual to find a chiropractor in the forefront of various community programs. Toys for Tots .. Community Food Bank promotions .. Shelter activity during these holiday periods. No matter the level of your personal activity .. your office and patients can easily contribute to these events and provide a groundswell of goodwill for all. This is the time to get your act together and build the momentum. First step is to decide who is responsible for this program. The staff or family member in charge begins collecting community event dates and ideas. A resource may be last years local papers .. archived at your library. What events began prior and during the Thanksgiving .. Christmas .. New Year period. Who spearheaded events .. fundraisers .. toy and food drives .. parades and spiritual events. Can you participate? If there is a local parade .. can your child patients or children of patients walk in the parade with your office banner giving out promotional material and goodwill? Can you offer postural and stress screenings during special events with donations going to a local charity? There is literally no end to your creativity and meshing with the wizardry and ideas of others. A Community Open House and Appreciation Day always work its magic .. just plan it .. promote it .. produce it and let all else follow. Plan today .. map out what is needed .. use patient participation and ask for their assistance. Use your office for community meetings .. just be visible and vocal. If...you do none of the above and submit your medicare claims on paper then you do not need a HIPAA plan. By October 2003 all claims must be sent electronically and then you will need a HIPAA plan...except if you have less then 10 employees, then you can still submit via paper and will not need a HIPAA plan...easy...wait, the Federal Government is likely to change those between now and then.
