t_langle@bellsouth.net (Principled Chiropractor) I want to point out that in the long run, this really has much less to do with Life University (although that IS important and urgent) and Sid Williams as it does about the future of chiropractic. Most of you (and I suspect MOST in the profession) acknowledge the incestuous relationship between the CCE, NBCE and FCLB. However, most of us just passively ignore it and/or pontificate on internet message boards. There are direct ties between the FCLB, CCE and NBCE, and by the way NCMIC and ACA. CCE now has an international arm. There are several possibilities that you should consider. One obvious one that everyone is talking about right now is potential accrediting problems down the road for schools that wish to teach their own non-allopathic brand of chiropractic OR who disagree with CCE in any way. But, more subtly (and much more disturbing) is the potential for ONE licensing agency for ALL chiropractors, the FCLB, or a derivative. That would simply mean that your state (or province/national) licensing board would be a mere puppet agency and used strictly for enforcement of FCLB's will. Given that scenario, the reality of Part V becomes very likely. That just means that EVERY chiropractor will be subject to being re- tested on whatever criteria the FCLB/NBCE/CCE determines in their omnipotence is best for the profession. I think most of you in practice can see the implications there. With Part V and a national licensing authority, there becomes the very real possibility of only ONE mode of practice and NO way to resist the change. Adjusting children, especially infants, and asymptomatic clients will be a thing of the past. Family and wellness plans will also become mere nostalgia. Membership in the ICA, FSCO, WCA or your principled state organizations will mean little more than an opportunity to hash over "the good ol' days". Membership in the ACA and their state affiliates could be required to participate in any insurance reimbursement program. In short, the very existence of the brand of chiropractic most of you now enjoy will not only fade away, its remains will be cremated and the ashes unceremoniously discarded. And unfortunately, there would be nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. We could literally return to the days of risking a jail term for practicing chiropracTIC. Am I over-reacting? Maybe. But, I don't think so. A mentor of mine once said "Comfort arrives as a guest, lingers as a host and stays to enslave you". There are consequences to every action. Failure to act is an action. The cost of apathy and acquiescence is greater than any, or all, of us can afford to pay. I respectfully suggest and encourage each of you to reflect on your political involvement in, and out, of chiropractic. Your very future and the health and well-being of your clients/patients could very well be at stake. Tim Langley, D.C.
