Karl Parker Seminar in Newark New Jersey E-mail message this week .. Little things Okay I confess, I like you, make lots of mistakes and usually on the grand scale. As I contemplate what shoulda, coulda been done, I realize, like many times before it was the little things, the simple steps that I avoided placing me in such a pickle. As healthcare providers and defenders of the innate potential of man, is there any worse mistake than letting the little things get out of control creating an out of control practice? Our patients and community depend on our skills and demand no less than a committed service based on trust and respect. Therefore, there is little room for mistakes both in the care we render and the care we place on practice management. Doctor, what is the trend within your office? If you keep statistics are the numbers lately leveling off or worse declining? Are new patients slipping through the cracks and dropping out prior to your recommended schedule? Has the number of referrals been dismal or non- existent? Has educational programs been on the back burner for months or years leaving your patients clueless to the potential of chiropractic and why referring their friends, family, co-workers, fraternal, religious and social acquaintances are so important? Doctor, if your answers are consistently yes to the above, then you are making a huge mistake and much work has to be done. Too many people depend on you, your patients, your community and your family and all are dependent on a committed and sound practice, donšt leave out the little things that make it work. As you look around and review your office, have you been leaving out the little things that make it work. When was the last time you scheduled a new patient orientation, a special time to reveal yourself and chiropractic in its best light? When was the last time you looked a new patient in the eye, held their hand and said the magic words, " we have a special class for our new patients that will help you achieve the most from your care. Mary will schedule this important class within the next two weeks, along with your adjustment. We have a morning or evening time so it will be convenient for you to bring your spouse or anyone wishing to learn more about health and wellness." Look them in the eye and expect the yes rather than the no and move on. Education, especially in the form of a lecture, solidifies the confidence your patient places in you and makes them more apt to refer. Every successful office has some form of education, whether they are knee to knee, a lecture format, pamphlets or on-going dialogue with each visit. Donšt leave this component out it is one of the biggest littlest thing you can do. Next have a staff meeting whether your office has one CA or multiples. What do they really know, do they believe in the concept of health and wellness and can they relate chiropractic to it? Really, how much do they know and if it isnšt much, whose fault is it anyway. Delegate and have them be accountable for every statistic they are responsible for and watch the trends, every complacent response leads to less enforcement of office policy. Stop the drain now. Again, donšt let the little things be lost in the struggle. Send birthday and reminder cards. Be sure timely newsletter are sent or better yet e-mailed. Write educational handouts or purchase pamphlets and be sure they donšt gather dust. Prepare and provide workshops and always ask patients for referrals. No need to be pushy, just tell them the story and all else will follow Have a Great Day Dr. M PS .. if you need help, purchase on of my books.
