Q: Just today I got a letter from ACN Group managing United Healthcare, canceling my privileges as a provider because I once wrote that I incorporated techniques and protocols like Network, TBM, and AK into my practice. Now I just adjust and don't label it anything. For that, they kicked me out. I want people to have an improved sense of well- being and be able to function and do as they want in thee lives. I feel bad for people who buy insurance that usurps their freedom to choose. It also sucks a little life out of me because it was a chiropractor who signed the letter. Any thoughts on that? A: Thanks for your e-mail. I think that anytime a managed care company removes you from their panel it isn't good. If you notice on many of the credentialling papers they ask if you have ever been removed from other panels (I think it is one of the questions). Therefore .. I would not get bitter or angry just politely ask them IN WRITING the reason they removed you from the panel and specifically WHY! I would respond in writing to them and send the letter registered, return receipt. There should be no questions about it .. there should be a definite reason. If you feel it is due to technique just ask that they specify exactly which one and why. Be specific in your question .. "if you feel it is due to my adjustment techniques, please specify which ones you feel are a risk to my patients and why you feel it is a safety hazard to your insured. Furthermore, since graduation from chiropractic college and as of the date of this letter, I continue to use various standard techniques within my practice including Diversified, Gonstead, etc. I would appreciate your reconsideration and re- instatement within your panel of approved chiropractors." If they continue to refuse you .. you may need to take it further including the state associations for their intervention, the insurance commissioner and the insurance company. I hope this helps
