Q: I have practiced for 7 years and have recently relocated and am basically "starting over." While I'm looking for the perfect office space, I would like to begin practicing by making "house calls." Do you foresee any problems practicing in this manner with regard to billing etc. without having an office? Also, if there are any other concerns, I'd appreciate your opinion. A: Thanks for the e-mail and question. I have a friend that waited almost 4-6 months prior to finding his office while doing nothing but housecalls and is very successful now .. problem is .. this was 21 years ago. To make a living .. you need a stable location .. ability to examine and adjust and have patients return and refer as needed. Yes .. you can do this in homes .. but realistically .. you are stifling your income and potential. If you have a license you can practice whereever .. the checks from insurance companies come to the address you tell them to send the check .. but .. if you are a member of an HMO they will require an office .. stable hours .. etc. I would encourage you to reconsider and either go out on your own or become an independent chiropractor in a location and do your housecalls one or two days a week. Now with that said .. if you have a sound reason to do housecalls .. can forsee a comfortable income from it .. go for it .. Have a Great Day Dr. M
