From: Dr. Margolies: 10-23-98 Posting for this week: LifeWest is going into cyberspace Oct. 24 .. Northeast Georgia practice for sale .. DC in Alpharetta, a suburb of Atlanta is looking for a PR person .. a DC with multiple licenses is looking to associate .. someone is looking for support against immunizations in Florida .. take tpolevoy@healthwatch.org or tpolevoy@golden.net off you e-mail address lists. A personal note by me is at the end. E-mail message this week: Practice Growth II This is a continuation from last week's e-mail. If you deleted it or lost it .. it can be found on my webpage: http://www.mindspring.com/~chirosmart which has over a year's worth of weekly e-mails .. take a peek .. also many of the survey .. workshops and forms can be found under Practice Tips. Last week .. I discussed using surveys to get the pulse of your practice and patients. The purpose of these surveys was to provide your patient's valuable in office Health and Wellness Classes and extend it to your community. If you were able to follow through with this idea .. you should have a number of completed surveys .. a variety of times that patient's are available to hear your message .. a number of guests they will invite .. places these patient's feel would welcome similar classes and a great way to open a channel of communications between you and your patients. Let's explore what happened in our office since last week. We attempted to have as many active patient's complete the surveys as possible. Either prior to or just after their adjustment they were given a clipboard with the one page simple survey .. no one objected or felt they were pressured. We have an active patient e-mail list .. these patients were e-mailed with this information as well. We were astounded to learn how many patient's wanted a variety of mentioned classes and most placed a number in the area representing how many guests they would bring. We just never asked. Since the class times varied between morning and a few afternoons .. my CA .. Heather .. broke down the days and times and placed names .. phone numbers and the number of guests in the specific log she created. Once this was completed .. we placed a flyer on the counter and on the door to our office and made everyone who signed up for a class aware that the class would be held this week .. others were told as well. As mentioned last week .. these classes were in addition to the new patient orientation and would be offered even during active office hours. The first class was Stretching and Exercise. My intern gave the class and spent considerable time going over concepts and impressing upon them that they needed to do these regularly and it wouldn't be a bad idea if they returned for a phase two class .. most thought it was a great idea. "By the way .. how many others should have been here to hear this class .. in fact this is a perfect class to bring to your workplace .. let me know at the conclusion and we'll give you a menu of our programs to bring to work." Well .. this is just the beginning .. the dialogue continues exploring who they know .. where you can speak .. can you provide handouts to place on bulletin boards at work .. you mention these things from your heart and after you have provided a great educational class .. and they should be interested in helping others and interested in helping you. Remember .. they completed and have a specific survey prior to this class and this is used to provide names and places. The end product of these in-office service oriented projects is two fold .. one .. new patients .. two .. providing active patients the service and education they deserve. Be assured ..they will appreciate it and referrals will be the end result. Be a beacon within your community. The second and third classes will be Fitness over Fifty and Trigger Points. The Over Fifty program will be offered in the morning and the Trigger Point class in the evening. You may find a handout for the Over Fifty class on my webpage under Practice Tips or Cyberconsulting. The button to push for the over fifty or really over 60 class is aging gracefully .. wellness into the 21st century .. mobility .. freedom from being over medicated .. safety tips .. ability to be at their peak potential. Trigger Point classes can be very valuable and provides you with walking chiropractic missionaries. This class is a great opportunity to pull out your spinal charts and discuss the compensatory reaction caused by subluxations and how the body may or may not adapt. After a brief description of anatomy .. a subluxation .. express your thoughts on a common problem in our civilization .. people unknowingly not receiving a proper evaluation for biomechanical instability. This is your opportunity to discuss your approach towards spinal wellness .. show them how the body expresses itself .. how it reacts when it has to compensate at random .. why trigger points are focal areas of pressure that can be easily palpated and if mild can be corrected via micro massage but if moderate .. may need professional attention .. chiropractic care. Think about it .. how many patient's have friends and fellow employees loaded with trigger points (read subluxations) and continue to complain. Once the patient expresses their new knowledge they have a solution .. the rest will be history. The best part of Trigger Point classes is each patient must bring a partner. Each will stand and roll their finger down the upper back and neck only .. feel for trigger points and shown how to use light pressure to dig the trigger points out. No .. we're not teaching chiropractic .. wow .. we're sending emissaries out to alert others what they need to do. Okay .. enough for today .. we'll continue internal and external marketing and public relation in future e-mails.
