From: Dr. Margolies At the conclusion of this e-mail are three items of interest. One concerns webpages for both cervical and lower back folks. Another is about an upcoming seminar facility in beautiful Hawaii. Also .. a doctor needs a lead for 3D anatomy charts. E-mail message: Fun in Practice (7-25-98) Each moment in practice should be fun filled. Think about it .. going to work should be pleasurable .. not a burden. Staff and patients should create a continuous motivating drive toward increased enthusiasm and fun. Why not .. after years of study and creating a practice you deserve no less. But there are doctors who dread going to their office. Some are burnt out .. others have compelling professional and personal problems .. while others are just not suited for this work. Over many years .. Chiropractic as a business can be a boundless and on-going string of practice and staff management .. creative promotions to keep the practice on keel .. insurance codes .. supplemental forms .. narratives .. whining patients and more. Everyone is the cause and you are the targeted effect. If this seems to define you hopefully this e-mail will touch some chords of practicality and bring you back towards reality. There should always be a warm and fuzzy fun feeling when helping others get well .. fun in managing your practice and further fun in the hunt for new patients and retaining those you have been blessed to help. Fun .. the gentle art of nurturing the child within your inner soul allowing your flower of being to flourish in the center of tumult and to laugh at the derision¼s of self centered humanity. How¼s that for a mouthful .. I remember Dr. Joe Flesia expressing it as a „Dance of More¾ .. you may have your own formula .. but deep within you is that innocent being .. calm without care or responsibility .. owing nothing and promising nothing .. going with the flow and being an ember of warmth within a hearth of comfort. What brought this topic to mind? As an Atlanta Braves fan .. I watch in peril each time their relief pitcher Mark Wohlers comes to the mound. He is making over $4 million a year and can¼t find the strike zone. Not only is he ineffective as a pitcher .. he has moments of even missing the plate. This is a pitcher who averaged over 95 mph fast balls and was one of the best closers in the major leagues until this year. He just lost „it.¾ He even went down to the minor leagues to find it and was worse there. Physically .. mentally .. whatever .. it¼s gone .. all the fun has left and the mechanics of finding it drain him day by day. Picture this .. do you think there is a huge dark cloud hovering from his home to Turner Stadium each day he drives to work? What races through his mind when he is given the sign to warm up and prepare to walk to the mound amongst the 40,000 fans hoping he¼ll save the game? If he has lost his competitive edge .. stifled his natural ability .. forgot the days standing in the sandlot when he could only dream of it .. he surely has lost having fun. He¼s lost the child that once was .. very sad. I and many more fans hope he finds „it¾ soon. The motivation of this e-mail was also stimulated earlier this week when I was on stage playing a concert with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra .. my old profession now a wonderful hobby. Amongst the few pieces we played was a beautiful woodwind piece .. Petite Symphonie by the French composer Gounod. Nine winds playing into wood and brass. Harmony .. FUN. Was I nervous prior to the performance .. you bet .. you have to have that performance edge. Did I dread performing in front of an audience .. No Way! It was funtime. But the natural abilities necessary to perform at my utmost could easily have dipped to the darkside .. fear and dread of the pending concert. I used to dwell there a lot. As a music student .. I¼d think of every considerable negative upset that could beset me during an audition .. never forming a bud of optimism .. I¼d dwell in the muck of peril and doom. Self fulfilling .. you bet .. what I feared usually transpired. It¼s easy to lose the joy and miss the opportunity to have fun. As a professional and even now .. as a difficult musical passage comes up I just tell myself to go with the flow and have fun .. the same in practice. Life is too short to get sucked into the endless restrictive nuances of organized mayhem. I choose to see through it and smile .. thinking of the challenges ahead as a journey for more .. dancing to the beat of my drummer .. the flow .. the fun. Fun in practice is the inner core you¼ll find when you peel away the trappings that crush creativity and purpose. Take the time to organize practice procedures .. take the time to train and re-train yourself and staff .. take the time to educate your patients .. now take the time to smile and be thankful for the gift you¼ve been given .. sharing it with your community is all the fun you¼ll ever need. Above the clouds is the sun and blue sky .. above the fears and frustrations is success and fun. As the Nike commercial says .. Just Do It!!!! Dr. M Now the request for you: There are 2 chiropractic interactive web pages that are educational, informative and carry in- depth interactive discussions. You can communicate with the web pages by e-mailing to: nvb@hawaiian.net. Pages are split into upper cervical: www.nvb1.com and full spine: www.chiropractor-doctors.com In addition there is a location in Hawaii soon to be available for continuing education seminars that has its own lodging with large shared accommodations. Sort of a "Bed...Make your Own Breakfast" place. The price of the Chiropractic Philosophy, Science, and Art seminars includes lodging and the convenience of staying at the seminar site which is located on the Coconut Coast on the Garden Island of Kauai right on the Blue Lagoon. It's awesome. At this time we are building the web page for the seminar center and hope that by the end of July 1998 the page will start to continually add spectacular photos of Kauai and the seminar center. It will shortly be reached at: www.kauai-blue-lagoon.com Join these two pages and let's upgrade ourselves and the profession by communicating with each other about our great philosophy, science, and art. See you on the net or at The Kapa'a Beach House on The Blue Lagoon .. Aloha from Kauai.
