Nevada DC needs info concerning impairment rating business E-mail message this week: patient focus groups Every business gauges its success on a growth chart. Our business is no different. We have a higher obligation and therefore our goals and purpose must be of higher moral and ethical character. In our search to increase our bottom line .. our search to increase those we serve becomes everlasting. Some of us enjoy the challenge while others cringe at the thought. The most common question asked a consultant is "how do I get new patients." The search becomes a hustle as attempts are made from the outside .. one endeavor after another. Public Relations 101 demands no less but in the search from the outside don¼t neglect our greatest asset .. our very own patients .. all we have to do is ask. Within the world of Madison Avenue marketing a major account is first developed after various focus group meetings. The focus of a demographic market is explored after specific survey questions and interests are digested. This is so true with us. We have a cross section of society visiting us daily with the extended reach of thousands. Take a few moments and scan through your mind¼s eye and consider the cross section of your patients. Now fine tune your scan and determine which of these patients have that volunteer bug built in .. those that thrive on helping and shaping programs to fruition. Now take some of the energy required to maintain an outside event and let¼s pour it into internal public relations. Step One .. create a personal focus group. How do you rate your communications skills? Can you articulate the value of an adjustment .. are your patients following your recommendations .. are referrals non existent .. do you offer educational programs .. is your office patient friendly? To go forward you must have a minimum degree of basic communications skills. If you are not a verbal person possibly you can articulate your thoughts by the written word .. or .. you must hire a staff member as your strong advocate. Nonetheless .. the idea is simple .. focus on your patients .. serve them well and they will be your best advocate. Step Two .. create a survey form with basic questions about their care to date .. their knowledge of what you do .. their interest in health related topics .. who they know that should also know and so on. Determine where they work .. type of work and any interest that you can bring your knowledge there as well. Do they belong to a church or civic group and would they even invite you to their home to speak to their friends about Health and Wellness rather than Sickness and Disease. Oh, before you cringe further with all this extra work .. the outcome is really warm and fuzzy as it is a natural fit based on patient/doctor cooperation. Step Three .. set aside some mornings and evenings for a patient focus group. Those that cooperated with the survey or you know has that volunteer spirit should meet with you as a group. Share with them your goal to be an advocate for community wellness .. share with them the role of chiropractic toward increased human performance and allow them a glimpse of your concerns about the lack of healthcare in our society with the abundance of disease care. Step Four .. provide them personal goals to help you reach yours. Set aside evening workshops.. provide them a menu of programs to give their employers or program chairpersons. Set aside special days for the cross section of your community .. programs for children to those in their golden years. Provide ergonomic workshops for the workplace and home.
