Enthusiasm Two contrasting events occurred within a two-week span proving the point that an enthusiastic crowd propels the speaker to heights beyond the norm while a weaker crowd creates less that what was expected. Let me explain. As many of you know, I have been a member of a local symphony orchestra for over 25 years with frequent concerts. Two weeks ago was our season's final concert with a local cabaret singer. The audience was more than enthusiastic requesting encores and not leaving before she repeated a few pieces. During the concert, you could feel the power of the audience and how the singer and the orchestra responded in kind. I hope you feel the same when providing a community or patient presentation with a full house clinging to your every word. The power of the moment drives you through your usual and customary into an area beyond what you expected and results not anticipated, like increased referrals, anticipation for your next class with more guests and new patients. The power was in the moment, with your audience and with you. Contrast my patient workshop last night. It was probably me, but I felt those attending seemed less interested than usual draining my energy rather than adding to it. The trick of public speaking is to gather strength through your knowledge and ability to share and wow the audience. Again, it was probably me, but rather than adding to the moment, time seemed to linger and lights did not beam bright from the heads seated before me. I guess it was just me, but the presentation on my office wall screen, huge and colorful full of concepts concerning Health and Wellness, Chiropractic and Anatomy, Lifecycle Reasons For Chiropractic Care and more just didn't have the umph and flare I usually anticipate slide to slide, creating a desire to get to the next one and embellish my thoughts on the topic at hand. Not this time, I couldn't wait until I finished. Wow, talk about lack of enthusiasm. Well, you can guess the anticipated results were not as expected. Folks left with few questions and fewer lights were bright with enthusiastic new thoughts and ideas about chiropractic. Could be wrong, you never know but one thing I do know. Be prepared to light your fire of enthusiasm with every patient and community interaction you have. As a patient or guest in your office, they are there to learn and share the information with others. I was off last night but a little help from the audience would have helped. There was no call for an encore. Enthusiasm is contagious, too bad we can't bottle it for later use Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
