Q: I've been in practice for 13 years. Last year my wife of 8 years asked me for a divorce and the costs of the attorney's is creating tremendous financial stress on me. If that were not bad enough my collections for past 4-5 months have been quite low. I've started listening to motivational tapes, am reading "Think and Grow Rich" and I've written some business goals for myself. The fact is I'm having a terrible time trying to pay my bills and I'm not sure what to do in the short term. My family is not wealthy - can't turn to them. Any suggestions? A: Thanks for the e-mail and very sorry about your problems. I wish I had some sage advice. For sure you have been distracted from business and it has reflected on your bottom line. The one saving grace of chiropractic is the ability to change moment by moment. A few new extra patients .. an additional service .. they follow your schedule of care .. some refer others and all of a sudden there is income. Therefore .. all is not lost. Don't place a "price tag" on results but start slowly to generate more personal and professional interest. Find time each day to plant some new ideas and follow through with phone calls or letters. In other words do something and see some progress. If your expectations and kept reasonable and reachable you will begin to regain confidence and hope. I recommend you begin by planning some ideas for next week. Spend some time create a flyer or handout for your patient and even survey a few to determine if they will attend an in office workshop. If you wish .. I would assist you by reviewing and plans and print material. Just send it along via e-mail. Remember that rebuilding a practice is not costly in funds by in personal time.
