The most likely to succeed in your graduating class was probably not the best looking nor the sharper dresser or even the better adjuster. Most likely, they were the best communicator. Size and looks has little to do with it, as we have seen many successful doctors and business people come in all sizes and shapes. Sincerity or conviction with a message gets the job done hands down. But, before you begin to reply in disagreement, the package does play a role, especially if we are promoting health and wellness, looking and living healthy is most important. In our present and likely short time precarious economic climate, it behooves us to get our communications skills honed and be able to provide extended services to enhance both the bottom line and patient care. I remember it took me years to finally set up a small rehab section of the office, then longer to purchase meager equipment and even longer to make it an easy process for patients to utilize and being paid for it. Literally, how many years had passed with lost income and lost opportunities to further stabilize and rehabilitate my community? It took so long because I was not sold on both the need and simplicity to implement something new. Those who I asked for guidance did not communicate the process clearly. It took an easily understood PowerPoint program with a step by step method to utilize this service that cleared up my concerns and making it real for me., Visual communications works best for me. Recently, Footlevelers, another income stream with excellent customer service, created a new patient visual display and an educational DVD to assist you with patient education and give you authority through knowledge. Rather than random words with little conviction, you now have a guide to help you educate your patients and help them determine their need. Communications will always be the key to success. If your level of consulting and reporting leaves much to be desired, I can guarantee you that it reflects on the level of your practice. Success is all from within and is dependent on what comes out. I use PowerPoint presentations during my patient and community workshops. Obviously it is a visual aid for the audience but more so for me. It provides an outline of ideas that I previously fine tuned for distribution. Not only does the message get out, it also helps boost my confidence in the material and helps my intention to attract new patients. I advise you to expand your base of expertise and offer your services beyond the walls of your office. There is a big world out there waiting for chiropractors to share their knowledge.
