Chill Out Years ago I was driving through my town and heard a radio news clip featuring Dr. Joyce Brothers, one of the first media psychologists. She was discussing the purpose and importance of time out and taking vacations. Her phrase I still use during my Stress Management Workshops is this: Vacations were once considered a luxury but today it is a necessity. This is so true. We get engulfed in the minutia of the daily grind. Insurance issues, missed appointments, upset patients, billing problems, staff upset and much more that would only bring you down further. You get my drift. We have to pause the noise, smell a bit of fresh air and mellow out. Does it take lots of money in fancy surroundings to find harmony? Must financial resources be strained to meet demands you expect? Can you find nirvana close to home without spending an arm and a leg and even losing too much time from the practice. The answer is yes. Placing your Brofman's Zones on pause utilizes little money just a bit more effort and ingenuity. Chill out prior to setting your foot in the office. Creative and centered docs either meditate; do affirmations and/or goal visualizations prior to starting their day. They literally dump old news to make room for more good news. They sparkle with energy because they paused their subconscious into a place they control. They feed positive media into their head based on a road map towards success paved with on-going projects, clear patient educational programs and equitable financial plans that keep patients on track. Rather than going from one fire to the next, they create a strategic plan that runs on its own and reaps rewards because the seeds were sown with love, compassion and skill. Great words, but give it thought. If you have your act together and others follow your lead, you have more to either create more or take a breath or two. Plan to succeed because you followed your plan. Plans take time to develop and more time to fertilize and see results but with a goal and reward at the end, such as a vacation, your creative time is relaxed while you chill out knowing that the mechanics of it all has been placed and the cogs of the wheel are working in tandem. Doctor, take a few moments to chill, reflect and plan. Even during an active day vacation time-out is possible See You The Week of September 14th Have a Great Day as a Find Time To Chill Out Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
