The challenge A successful business never rests on its laurels but uses the energy of success to drive towards an even brighter future. In reverse, a struggling business usually accepts the present never reaching beyond today. The challenge for both is similar, in one case keep the momentum and for the other break free. There may be a challenge within our economic climate, choosing to give in to the doom and gloom or accept the challenge and create your own rules. For the successful clinic, rule number one, practice with service as primary providing a little extra taking you a long way. Two is to increase services so patients and the community see your office as their gateway towards wellness and feel obligated to tell others. Three, begin a campaign of patient and community education taking it to the masses attempting to meet and greet as many as your time allows. Four, increase staff awareness creating a solid team reinforcing the chiropractic story to your patients, their family and friends encouraging referrals and patient compliance. Five, evaluate the money line. Review your fees, decide which services are provided free when chargeable and check front desk collections determining how many patients are taking advantage of your good nature and how often billing is attempted to recover lost income. Review, streamline and correct front desk efficiency and paperwork to streamline practice and patient management. For the struggling practice the same road is used except they have to step outside their comfort zone to comply. First, draw a line in the sand and decide not to go down any further. Second, review the previous six months of practice data determining any pattern when patients drop out, not paying fees, not complying with your directions or referrals are an exception rather than the rule. Third, they have to access practice momentum. During a staff meeting, discuss freely the energy generated by each member, even if the doc and front desk. No energy, no growth. The answer towards turn around is finding a lightning rod of energy that excites and ignites the practice. Possibly it's learning a new technique, possibly it's new excitement with nutrition and/or rehabilitation, possibly it's creating comfortable classes to spread the word or possibly its asking patients for referrals and networking for potential new patients and advocacy within the community. Most important is a renewed excitement for our work. Chiropractic is a business and job to go to but most important nit is a vehicle for others to regain their health and wellness. Tap into this and the rest will be history. This my friends, is the challenge Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
