Walt Disney I discovered a long time ago that whom I work with is as important as what I do. I believe having the right CA's has been integral to my success. I am not able to do what I do without them. If a CA is ineffective or unpleasant it makes it difficult for me to be a fabulous chiropractor and offer exquisite service. I have had to develop skills of team building and leadership so we can better serve our people and change more lives, while enjoying our time together. SUCCESS TIPS 1. BE AN ACTIVE LISTENER. Schedule a periodic one-on-one meeting with each CA. At this meeting, be a good listener, and know how to be responsive and do something about what you hear. This meeting is scheduled, is short and has a purpose. It is a time to monitor the CA's responsibilities, congratulate on progress and improvement, correct and redirect if necessary. Focus on purpose and goals, and check that they feel supported. 2. UNDERSTAND STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF YOUR CA'S. Don't pretend that they are doing well if they are not. Work with them firsthand, role-play with them outside your normal team training. Verify that they have their time organized for maximum efficiency. Do they present well? Are they focused on the practice members and building the practice with referrals? Can they do everything you need? If not, work with them, send them to seminars, and give them training tools to utilize. 3. DEMONSTRATE A DISCIPLINED WORK ETHIC. Be efficient and manage your time as an example. Be consistent in your report, new practice member, and adjusting times. Consistently do your work on time. Be an example of the perfect employee. 4. KNOW YOUR CA'S PERSONAL, PROFESSIONAL MISSION STATEMENTS AND DEFINING STATEMENTS. If they do not have them, teach them how to develop them. Verify that they can articulate them eloquently. 5. KNOW YOUR CA'S PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GOALS. If they do not know what they are, help them develop them and teach them how to achieve the goals. Then continually help them reach the goals and teach them when and how to reset the goals. 6. MAXIMIZE EACH CA'S PRODUCTIVITY AND CAPABILITY WHILE CREATING AN ATMOSPHERE OF TEAMWORK. Your goals are to focus on having the right CA in the right role and see them each achieve their goals individually and support the rest of the team. 7. COMMUNICATE YOUR STANDARDS CONSISTENTLY AND HOLD YOUR CA'S TO THAT STANDARD. Strive to be near perfect. Do not accept sloppiness, tardiness or mediocrity. Be a show case office. 8. RECOGNIZE, REWARD AND APPRECIATE. Studies show that the greatest increases in productivity come not from cash alone but from non-monetary recognition items such as merchandise, plaques and lifestyle items. Consistently be generous with your praise, match rewards to the performance, utilize variety, and make the reward personal to that individual CA. 9. HAVE A BLAST. You know what it takes to make your office fun, what it takes to make it fun for your CA's and practice members. Subluxations are serious and deadly. But our life and our office atmosphere do not have to be. If not discover it and make that a reality. After all this is your life- THIS IS NOT A DRESS REHEARSAL. Go for it!
