Q: How do you limit your liability when doing a BP screening in a local store?. Do the people need to sign a waiver? A: If you call your local chapter of the American Red Cross and tell them you are doing Community Health and Posture Screenings which include B/P .. they will give you an official log for this purpose. All you have to do is write the name of the person being checked and record their readings. If you find someone with an elevated or questionable reading .. ask if they are on medication and the last time they had a physical with their medical physician. If your judgment is conservative .. tell them it would be a wise idea to have a general physical or seek guidance from their physician if the abnormal readings continues. They may also come to your office for a follow up reading or tell them to visit a local health department etc. In other words .. just give them some conservative advice and record it. No panic .. no anxiety in your tone.. etc. As we both know B/P is very subjective and may vary depending on the persons level of tension at the time. Now .. as is your purpose of being there .. advise them that Chiropractic can also assist in getting to the root of their condition along with any approach they presently take and if they have an MD monitoring their condition you will be more than happy to assist them with an additional alternative approach to care. If the American Red Cross doesn't have such a program .. create your own log and do what is written above. If you record your evaluation and side on the side of being conservative nothing will go wrong .. you evaluated .. you advised .. you recorded .. that's it Have a Great Day Dr. M
