Sharing by Dr. Rick Wren .. wren@texoma.net Report of findings with a new patient: 12-10-99 Dear Colleagues and Friends, I had to throw out a patient the other day and it made me reflect on confrontations. The patient was very argumentative and insisted we were teaching her to much and taking up her time, this was her third visit(Financial Report). She had a reversed cervical curve and Phase 2 degeneration at C5 and C6, she was only 40 years of age.We were confirming what she had learned the day before at the ROF. As we were looking at her xrays , she could tell me exactly what was wrong with each view. Between each view she kept saying " I dont need to know this stuff". She is the only patient I have ever had say that while looking at their xrays, while understanding their xrays. They are usually dumbfounded at how much they learned in 15 minutes and how much they see wrong on their own xrays. The Finacial Report with her took 4 times longer than it should have, so I escorted her to the front door and told her to find a Chiropractor that cared as little as she did about her health. She Promptly called me a Jerk and stormed out. What this patient is really saying is "Dont teach me enough that I have to make a wrong decision about my health". The patient kept arguing "All I wanted was a few adjustments, I know that chiropractic works'. Patients are allowed to come for short term care if they choose to. But 99% of the patients make a rational decision after learning about their xrays, involving "Time and Money". Early in my practice(1980) I would not have escorted this patient out. I would have been miserable listening to this patient "Gritch'(Gripe and **itch) over the next very few weeks. One of the principles of practice success is to throw out negative patients to make room for many positive patients. Once the Universe knows what kind of patients you want, it will send you more of them. I learned how to confront by listening to masters at Parker Seminars. My Confront got bigger alot faster by hanging around Chiros that had more experience and success. So Please learn to confront so the Universe can send you more positives. I would Love to see you in Las Vegas in January(www.parkerseminars.com) LLL, Dr. Rick Wren(Founder of Society of Chiropractic Masters)
