E-mail message this week: Office Workshops Okay .. let¼s get down to nitty gritty. We all want a successful practice .. patients following their given schedules and referring in their family and friends. In order to have harmony in an orchestral score the composer needs to understand the nuances of tonal balance and use the proper musical notations to separate noise from music. Same is true with your office .. the balance between your efforts and guidance and the patient¼s follow through begins at the beginning .. from their first phone call and your consultation. The tone set at this point .. serious but caring .. allows the patient to seize the moment and realize they are in serious but caring hands. My new summer class at Life University began this week .. my serious but caring tone is set at the beginning of class .. I expect to start the class on time .. I expect to offer them their best and most dynamic business oriented class in their entire experience at Life .. I expect them to jump in with questions and also offer their world of experience .. then .. I expect they will take this new or added knowledge with them and extend it to their community and be as successful as they wish to be. Is there anything else? In other words .. establishing policies early on will create a successful and dynamic practice and life experience. So why do many doctors leave out one of the most effective methods of communicating themselves and chiropractic to their patients .. the office workshop? I hope this e-mail reaches your office built upon policy guidelines with weekly or bi-monthly spinal care classes .. health talks or whatever you call it. A personal meeting with the new and established patient creating a bond of knowledge and trust. What better way to introduce what makes you chiropractically tick? What better way to establish from the beginning the whys of chiropractic care .. why they need to follow their schedule .. why it is important they assist with specific conservative exercises .. why they need to manage their lifestyle both at home and work .. why they need to be part of the health care solution .. why they need to tell others about chiropractic care .. What better way to express your knowledge of the Art .. Science .. Philosophy of Chiropractic? Why you chose chiropractic as your life journey .. why you chose your specific technic(s) .. why subluxation is a word lost within the health system .. why you look at the spine as a engineer looks at a blueprint .. why you have faith in the healing power of the body .. why the nervous system .. without interference .. is best to adapt to its external and internal harsh environment .. why you accept the difference between medicine and chiropractic and how the difference makes the difference. This is your best opportunity to give of your inner self and have them leave with knowledge and trust. Workshops .. on a regular basis .. is a lost art for many. There are many excuses .. fear of standing before strangers .. fear of rejection (maybe no one will show) .. fear that there will be just one person when you scheduled five .. every excuse is valid if you make it so. If you have fear .. have your CA give the class .. write cheatsheets and give it to every patient .. now read and embellish .. show a patient orientation video with your introduction and concluding answering of questions. There are solutions for every fear. You veterans reading this know that patients coming to the workshops .. in general .. are better patients .. they follow their schedule .. they are more apt to refer .. they pay their bills and get the results you both wish because they understand and allow you the opportunity to complete the necessary care. I recommend you start this week planning to provide weekly workshops. Begin by accepting the reality that you will be giving weekly workshops .. for one or ten patients. You will be creating reality if you are there on a regular basis .. you¼ll be surprised with the results. Asking patients to come to a workshop is similar to giving them an option. If you were a cardiologist and you felt that your care was beyond compare and you had rules that each patient had to follow .. you wouldn¼t accept no for an answer. The nurse would say „Mr. Smith, Dr. Margolies accepts patients who will cooperate in their recovery. In order for us to assist you in regaining your health, you and your family must attend one of our lifestyle change classes within four weeks of today¼s visit. It is important that every family member attend as they will be assisting you in diet and stress reduction. We understand that your health is your primary concern so we have one class a week .. let¼s see .. which Wednesday evening would be best for you?¾ I can almost guarantee you will get 90% attendance .. each with a spouse and extended family members. You placed a value and importance to the class. You made it clear that you are there to support them in regaining their health and that the doctor only accepts patients that will be participants in their wellness. You must do the same. Rather than reading this and coming up with an excuse .. begin to overcome your anxiety and doubts. Set this great action step in motion .. schedule your new patients at first then extend these workshops to specific subjects and offer it to all. Begin today .. yesterday has already passed.
