Why recreate the wheel Marketing a chiropractic business takes time and effort that hopefully has a positive end .. new patients. The time, thought and energy expelled to germinate the idea and plant seeds within your practice or community is often set aside after the event with little discussion on how it could have been improved or specific logistical concerns. Rather than duplicating the same mechanics the next time around, it would be best to consolidate present thought and open a discussion prior to the next time. Also, how often do you look for previous program material and rather than gathering it quickly, you find many components are scattered all over the place. The outcome is wasted time and resources to re-create your wheel of progress. Solutions are simple. Focus on the task at hand and dedicate a folder or whatever it takes to write the strategic plan, logistics from start to finish, budget decisions, vendors and printers, numbers and addresses of community or patient advocates, people assisting and their dedicated skills, as well as the variables of the day so a clear perspective can be used the next time. Re-creating the wheel is also frustrating. Enthusiasm is percolating with the anticipated event. Discussion with staff generates an additional layer of excitement and then someone searches for previous flyers and data needed to implement. Oh, oh, where is it? At this point a tamper is placed between the layers of excitement and before too long the frustration leads to forget about it. Trust me, preparation will win the day the next time around. One final thought .. the Crow and the Sparrow In my neighborhood it is common to see a small sparrow chasing away a large blackbird, which I assume is a crow. The crow looking for a free and easy meal of fresh eggs is apt to raid the nests of these sparrows. But maternal and fraternal instincts outweigh the difference in size and weight which helps the sparrow to action. As a chiropractor, I often see myself as a sparrow far outnumbered and outweighed by the medical establishment and instinctive thoughts of my community. But, my need to tell a different story and my belief that we serve to a higher power helps me overcome the odds. This Spring and Summer is often a renaissance within your neighborhood with blooming bushes, swollen nests and peoples more attuned awareness of health. Please think as a sparrow and protect those people that dwell within your neighborhood with your presence, your screenings, your workshops and whatever projects you can offer.
