Q: Dr M., My question today deals with worker's comp. How can I get on a company's preferred providers list for workers comp. Where I'm thinking about opening an office, there are a couple of large industrial parks nearby. I'm curious on how I can attract these companies. Also, I was wondering if you could look over a lease agreement for a possible office. I would appreciate any insights on how to negotiate the lease and what to negotiate for. I would be happy to mail you a copy of the lease. A: Thanks for the e-mail .. as far as worker's comp it all depends on your state regulations. Here in Georgia a company with over four employees must have worker's comp insurance and a panel of physicians their employees can go to. The panel consists of a specific segment of healthcare .. but chiropractors can be easily included on the panel if the employer agrees thay want them on. Therefore .. as with Georgia or any state .. it is best to discuss with the human resources .. benefits .. or safety people in the company (as we discussed in the class and in the Smart Start Book .. chapter 1-3) .. about your menu of programs for them ..from ergonomic workshops to pre employment screenings to health fairs etc. Once they see you as a team player .. without being too aggressive in asking to be included .. they may place you on the panel. First step .. if you are not located in Georgia .. find out about the panel and the law .. call someone in th state chiropractic association they'll probably have the info. If it is similar to Ga's law .. then follow the guidelines we went over in class and in the book ..the scripts are right in there. Also .. check my webpage: http://www.mindspring.com/~chirosmart and look under Practice Tips and Cyberconsulting .. there may be stuff there as well. As far as the lease .. I'd be happy to review it .. fax it to me at 770-491-3799 and be sure to include your e-mail address so I'll get back with you Have a Great Day Dr. M
