The Stimulus Plan To impede the recession and stimulate jobs and local economies, the federal government has decided to create work throughout the country. This jolt of activity is meant to jump start wavering employment and put people back to work. Furthermore, they will be handing out checks to every employed person hoping to entice us to go out and spend. Depending on which side of the political fence you sit, this is either a great idea or a potential boondoggle. No matter, for us, we providers of health and wellness, we trappers of hearts and spines, we imaginers of fanciful life potential and we instigators of community health, we stimulate with every adjustment, we free a life flow, we provide answers to many a prayer and often we are the lifesavers that many have been searching for. For example, last week an established patient asked me if I could help her son. He had been recently suffering with chronic pain resulting from fifteen years of Multiple Sclerosis. His condition worsened and his medical specialist didn't have an opening for him until months later. Would you imagine, this is January and the specialist couldn't see him until March. Nonetheless, I told her to bring him in. As is my usual protocol, I evaluated him, and with his mother watching I explained the Activator analysis and adjustment, which she had experienced many time before but without seeing it in action, then proceeded to clear and balance her son. The leg check was horrendous with gross imbalance throughout the spinal regions and an SOT check for category blocking indicative of chronic spinal instability, defensive paraspinal posturing and all the rest. It was obvious to the mother that this evaluation, although less sophisticated than the Shepard Spinal Center they usually go to, was quite revealing. But, the proof was in the pudding, does all this help. Well, we know the answer but often the body has its own timeframe to improve. Fortunately for both the patient and myself, he returned to next day almost pain free, after months of chronic pain, a wavering gait and active and restrictive trigger points. The lesson I tried to instill within the mother was why she had not brought him to our office years ago. What did I have to do to stimulate her and others to refer and be proactive towards their own maintenance care? Doctor, there is no finer stimulus plan than stimulate your present patient base with the story of chiropractic. Stimulate them more rather than spending time and money attempting to convince folks from the outside to come in. Cultivating your own garden is much cheaper and gratifying than stoking the leaves to find new soil below. Doctor, stimulate your patients with renewed energy, office excitement, patient appreciation days, special in-office events, referral boards, team effort towards excellent service and many classes and workshops. Stimulate the community by asking patients where they work, attend church, socialize and participate in sports so you can reach them through patient networking.
