It's as Simple as That I evaluated a new patient today who reminded me that we met earlier when I presented a stress workshop at his AT&T office in 1988. He brought with him our crooked pen that we usually give to all workshop attendees. The pen showed up while he was cleaning house, which aggravated his back prompting him to call us. It was as simple as that. It would have been great if he made an appointment after my class in 1988 but his belated appointment was welcomed nonetheless. The pen was a stimulus; his back pain made it real and my workshop in 1988 left a long lasting impression. Belated or not, what you do and say today plays a role in what transpires now or later. Marketing is an art in itself. Too often emotions are involved prompting us to spend hard earned money running after new patients. Desperation sets in when the numbers are down and frivolous promotional ideas become the rule. Reduce the fluff or you will create an atmosphere that is doomed from the beginning. Doctor, your best new patients are referrals. Telling the chiropractic story is free and energy placed on where to and what to speak about is usually very productive and cost effective. If you are neglecting your home base by not requiring all patients to attend regular spinal care classes you negate your ability to stimulate referrals. If you are not networking with your patients for venues to speak to, their work, church, sports facilities and even their homes, you lose out on your best marketers, your patients. If you refuse to explore new avenues to reach people, whether at health fairs, postural screenings, informational tables in public and corporate arenas, you lose out on the exponential growth of your practice. Doctor, it is as simple as creating a patient survey and requesting they complete it by their tenth visit. Questions are fashioned to create further awareness of chiropractic while planting seeds for future maintenance care. Questions also determine whom they know, where you can share the chiropractic story and your goals to reach their family and friends in a compassionate and caring way. It is time to establish regular staff meetings aimed at furthering staff knowledge and awareness. Time to set in motion the action steps to meet goals and create in-office games to reach them. Take a step back and a deep breath and challenge your future by changing your present. Look square in the eyes of your team and read their desire to follow you and if necessary re-train them of let them step aside. To expand you must add life to your practice and zip in its stride.
