Top Seven Ways to Boost the Return of Prospective New Patients after they Make an Appointment at a Screening Many chiropractors are frustrated by putting their heart and soul into a spinal screening, they want to educate the community however they discover that the majority of the appointments made did not show up for their appointment at the office. Having personally consulted with and or read the surveys of over one thousand Kids Day America/International chiropractors who have collectively screened over one million children for vertebral subluxation during the last five years, I have learned the critical factors that give you the highest return for your time. 1. Gain rapport with the person and be sincere and have a strong conviction about chiropractic. Serve for the right reasons and it will always be successful. Also be clinically competent. 2. When scheduling an appointment make sure that you are telling the person that the doctor is reserving the appointment time just for them and ask for a commitment to the time. Also collect a nominal fee at the screening to donate to a charity instead of collecting the exam fee at the time of service. 3. Have a couple of your patients volunteer (lots of ways to do this) at the screening and share their chiropractic experience with the prospective patients. When they hear success from other patients they will have more confidence in your services. 4. Hand out brochures, pamphlets and health information specific to the concerns that the parents checked off on their pediatric spinal screening form. The more educated they become the more likely it is that they will return for their appointment. 5. Have visuals such as an insight subluxation station EMG or thermal scan that they can pick up a printout of at their appointment in your office. It's very compelling to show the prospective patient visually the neurological effects of vertebral subluxation. 6. Prepare a selection of pediatric patient success stories from your practice to give to the prospective patient based on what they checked off on the pediatric spinal screening form. This is always very effective. 7. Make a reminder call utilizing the information collected from the pediatric spinal screening form to remind the prospective patient of the importance of the Chiropractic history and exam appointment. Also reiterate how the information they took home at the screening applies to them and that they can expect to have a wonderful experience in your office and how they can look forward to a healthier, happier more productive life. One other important step is to let the person know what to expect on the first visit to remove some of the mystery or anxiety that a new patient might have. These tips and others that we will share in the future have helped facilitate tens of thousands of families to begin chiropractic care on the right foot. Remember, you don't win them all, but planting seeds now will bear fruit in the future.
