Ask your front desk CA why it's important that patients follow a structured care plan. Next ask your insurance CA when was the last time they actually verified every available code you are capable of performing. I recommend you also ask your therapy CA why each component of their care fits with the primary component which is your adjustment. If you really have guts ask the next five patients their definition of chiropractic and if they can tell their family or friends what you do and how it works. Can you answer these questions quickly and sharply with precision pinpoint understanding? Can your spouse or children or significant other do the same? They should and they would if you didn't keep it a secret. Too many doctors take it for granted that a CA or patient oriented textbook or video is sufficient. No way! Many doctors take their staff to seminars and leave them to pick and choose the data decimated .. worse yet the doctor goes to get educated and leaves their staff behind. Is this sufficient to fill the void that so many have of chiropractic. No way! What can we do? I recommend you start with baby steps. Small ideas that gel with other ideas creating the matrix of chiropractic. The adjustment is a literal stretch. Asking a lay person to perceive that a wrestling match or a light force Activator or Network adjustment actual does anything is asking for a leap of faith unless you can easily and digestibly get your message across with logic and clear understanding. We live in a techno crazy world that accepts only immediate results and Si-Fi gadgetry. Can we duplicate this .. I doubt it? It's your belief in your skills and your ability to create a global understanding of the Big Idea that will win the day. For those DC's that feel philosophy is overrated you must fill the void with data and paint a picture with biomechanics as your primary goal. If your patients come and go and your new patient volume is at the mercy of the sun and the moon .. I recommend you get out a pen and paper and draw a diagram of a football field. You have two goal posts at either end with a fifty yard line in the center. Many barriers stand in the way of reaching either goal but your primary responsibility is to move the ball through the half way point and the goal. Strategies number one is education and follow through. Everyone reading this will find their own barriers but the chalkboard is the same for all. For starters coach your team and to fill the stands coach the fans. All you have to do is lay your beliefs and skills on the table and don't keep it a secret.
