This was sent to me by a previous student who has successful help DCıs while a student screening. He was answering some students questions about what to be paid. Here is his answer .. 5-1-00 Here is some info on a doc who wants to hire some screeners. I would recommend they pay you an hourly minimum wage or $25 appearance fee (in case the sites he sets up stink), and $50 if they appear in his office, after the appt is set at the screening (of course take $20 at the screening to set the appt). the reason being, you did your job in getting them there, if he's worth his salt they will become a patient. also, he needs to pay a minimum wage for a flagger/runner (you can supply the person). this is big because it means youıll waste less time chasing people, just like the porters do it. finally, if he expects you to set up places, determine your own fee for this. donıt fall for the "but its great experience for you bs, you've already got that. thatıs like a patient going in to see him and asking for a discount because he'll get adjusting experience out of it". always keep in mind when asking for your fees, "what is a patient worth to him over the course of 1 year (or more commonly a full care plan)", if he's worth his salt they will stay that long on the average, and refer one patient on the average. this is not even to mention if they stay longer or refer more. too many doctors are trying to get sweat shop labor out of students, and more often than they realize, they get what they pay for. new patients are big business, and with the above asking price your still getting paid well less than 10% of what a np is worth to them. chiros donıt realize the dollar value of a good screener, however, if they were made to sit down and figure what a np was worth, their perspective should definitely change. one more thing, make a copy of the names and phone numbers and appt times, let the doc know you have a copy and offer to follow up on the people that donıt show. this will keep the doc honest about paying you your $50, and give you a chance to get the no shows back in.
