Practice growth is dependent on your ability to fill the void adding new patients while managing and retaining those you already have. In our business there is only three ways to make money. You can increase your fees, increase your services or increase volume. Easiest is increasing fees but this may upset the matrix of your office especially if you increase it substantially. Right in the middle is services. Every thing we do with our patients is a service. We often neglect to charge for these services or forget to provide the service at all. Re-examinations, adjusted daily living evaluations 97535, outcome assessment assessments 96150, post x-rays, manual therapy 97140-59, supports or products, plus proper patient scheduling and reducing missed appointments and drop outs will add greatly to your bottom line. Rather than raising fees, try offering useful and necessary services and charge for it. Besides managed care providers, you just might get paid. The most difficult is volume. This requires asking patients for referrals, maintaining your active patient list, includes community and in-house public relations and being assured that those you attract into the office stays in the office and grows exponentially. There is always room for more. Consider all segments of your daily practice. Slow periods in the morning are ripe for stay at home moms and Medicare patients, are you attracting them? Senior workshops at local church and civic groups will usually attract an attentive audience and with Medicare coverage, who would say no to a valuable service such as chiropractic. Try morning screenings at local supermarkets and retail venues to attract morning shoppers including the stay at home moms and others ripe to introduce health and wellness with chiropractic. Expanding your PR efforts will pay off substantially if done with purpose and effectively. But you must be assured you can handle these patients with efficiency and professionally. Consider all daily procedures. Are you usually burdened with paperwork and redundancy? Do you spend excessive time with each patient, considering less on quality over quantity? Are CA procedures overwhelming, established without thought of capacity and growth? Always look for areas to cut chatter and excess, without losing the relaxed tone of your office. There is always room for one more. What about the new or struggling practice? Find time to fit in some marketing and public relations. A day should not go by without some thought and action to promote. It could be creating a newsletter, researching organizations to speak to, presenting an office or community workshop, asking for a referral, creating a handout or flyer, retraining your staff and calling inactive patients. There is always room for one more. Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
