Reflection for the New Year Once again, we come to the end of the year and another moment to reflect on where weıve been and where we wish to go. If your e-mail and snail mail is anything like mine, you are inundated with promotions for chiropractic products and seminars. Introductory samples and sales are common with many vendors and discount weekends are often available by many of our chiropractic consultants and seminars. In fact, Dr. Karl Parker has offered a free seminar in Las Vegas this January with 23 hours of CE classes, look for his posting below for details. It isnıt too difficult to smart start a new practice, jump start a wayward practice or maintain and surge an established and well run office facility. Therefore, I recommend, prior to getting into the New Year, some quality time be spent on reflection and consultation with those responsible for your success or lack thereof. Concentrate on the why and because of your statistics. If you are proud of your success and your practice works like a charm, you still have to justify why to maintain the because of your success. People and places fall into place only because you have steadied your ship and all hands on deck follow a map charted by you, thatıs why you succeed year after year. Reflect on this and also if you have profited and accumulated both with wealth in treasure and wealth in soul. Success comes in many forms and more of it only allows you to share your bounty with others. The purpose of life is to survive and the purpose of chiropractic is to add quality to the lives of those we touch. The numbers we serve and the rewards we gather are bound together. Your lack of commitment, service or purpose reduces the intensity of your glow and dilutes the power of your office from the head, you, to each extremity, your staff and down to the lifeblood itself, your patients. Never underestimate to power of commitment, your continued success depends on it. If your numbers are low or flat can you justify this easily or do you have to jump through hoops to make it right in your mind? If money is involved, is the lack of it stopping your progress or the fear of using or working with it a concern? Are their demons in your closet that get dredged up each time you want to move forward preventing you from making sound and reasonable decisions or even entertaining positive thoughts? Is the colloquial fear of failure the rationale behind your rationale? So many variables here that psychologists can survive on chiropractic doctors only as their patients. As a profession, we are generally a competitive breed. Always comparing our numbers to others or worrying about the doctor down the street. I imagine this keeps us from becoming stale, but it will also drags us down if we decide not to join in the competitive game and resign to the numbers we produce. No shame here, but if you wish to venture to the next level and feel you lack the proper skills, no fear as there are numerous seminars and consultants out there willing to help you turn things around. Granted you have to spend money to travel to seminars, to join or visit seminars during weekends, to purchase the necessary props or equipment and gather the learning skills to make it work, but the receiving is available if you are willing to make a strong commitment, follow through with the ideas and delegate your authority. But, here lies the rub. Many doctors lack the business sense to run a business or lack the know how to maintain it. Hiring a business coach may be the best decision made and the income spent. I recommend you spend time either during this weekend prior to the start of 2007 or during the early part of the New Year to reflect on where youıve been and where you wish to be. Ponder your dreams that further wealth or reaching even modest goals can bring and determine if your pace is set on the right track. If you predict more of the same and it is unacceptable, you may wish to find a coach so your team of staff, patients and community can benefit from a solid practice not more of the same. Visit my webpage: www.chirosmart.net and look under weblinks and from there look for consultants. I have linked most if not all of them. If you wish to attend seminars while watching them on the computer, visit www.mbachiropractic.com for their list of available downloadable seminars, including some of mine. Also, take advantage of the mega seminars with various instructors such as found at the Parker and Karl Parker seminars and when the occasional flyer or e-mail shows up at your door or computer, seize the moment and take the plunge, you may like the journey.
