DC needs info on buyout contracts between associate and owner doctor E-mail message this week: Precious Time Last week, I received an e-mail concerning the untimely and tragic death of a fellow chiropractor, Brad Timpf, a December 2000 graduate of Life University. His death, outside a restaurant is still an unsolved murder. I donıt know the gentleman but cards and condolences left at the Center for Natural Health in Coconut Creek, Florida attest that his patients, community and our profession will miss him. He was 32-years old. After learning about Dr. Timpfıs death, I began to reflect on life and death and how it is outside our power to determine when and how. Although we have the opportunity to manage our life, we often abuse the privilege and let others manipulate us or we usually succumb to the foibles of the day. As chiropractors, we have an awesome responsibility to guide our patients toward a path of health and wellness. If you doubt this, just survey your patients and see how little they know about health, wellness, prevention, nutrition, exercise, stress management, ergonomics and a list that goes on and on concerning the daily trappings of existence. Way too much misinformation is rendered by the media and in schools concerning Health and Wellness. Discussions concerning Sickness and Disease rule the roost in schools and advertising, no wonder disease is so prevalent. We are bombarded with fast or technically altered foods and easy administered medications to alter physiology so choosing the wrong directions in life will often reduce our potential. Again, as chiropractors, we have an awesome responsibility to guide our patients toward a path of health and wellness with each adjustment and by example. I realize our primary mission is to set free the subluxation as well as indirectly reduce impediments to the vascular and immune systems, or if you like, increase physical performance by reducing segmental dysfunction and increase mobility. In either case, the body is less stressed, healthier and aimed towards wellness. Philosophy aside, we should all agree. To reach the patient and assist with their travels towards wellness, our adjustment is just one powerful and necessary tool but our mind and mouth is just as powerful. We must share our knowledge, insist on patient compliance and offer them the best guidance we can. If you lack the information or tools necessary to get the job done, then you have a massive task before you. You must receive your timely adjustments and take from the well of knowledge so you can share it with others. Our strength comes from our commitment and our commitment comes from knowledge. As you enter the New Year, I recommend you find time to reflect on your practice and the goals you had set for yourself and staff this year 2006. Have you met them, and if not, why? Is there a weakness in purpose and commitment or are you weak in character that ties you down. If you had the money, equipment and knowledge and remained in your present location, what more would you do or would you? The answers to these questions will set the stage for the New Year and your success. We have limited time on this planet and so much to accomplish. Our family and friends depend on us, as does our patients and profession. Life and death may be beyond our pay grade, but the quality of our life and those we tend to will be so much better subluxation free as we reach as many people in our community we can by sharing our knowledge and skills. Rest in Peace, Dr. Brad Timpf Dr. M PS .. if your patients bring in delicious candy and cakes for the holiday, your are absolved Postings: Dr. Joel E.
