Only three ways to create income You probably heard this before but it's worth repeating. Three are only three ways to create income as a chiropractor. One is increase fees, second is to increase services and third is increase your patient volume. Each require specific action steps to maintain a viable income that will then increase incrementally. Let's review each. First increase fees. This is a no brainer. If you want to make a few extra bucks per office visit, just increase the adjustment fee by $5. There may be a few patients grandfathered in with no increase and a few that may balk and walk but in general you ampted your bottom-line with little heavy lifting. Consider the number of adjustments per day, week, month and year and the difference will make a difference. As far as services, this may be the most difficult and limited for the doctor philosophically grounded. Using the innate ability of the body to perform its miraculous work requires less adjunctive intervention than many doctors offer. But for those that wish to add services within a block of office visit time such as nutrition, therapy, rehabilitation, ortho supports, extra spinal adjustments and extended E/M coding such as post films, examinations or adjusted daily living discussions there are fees attached to these insurance codes or fees for the cash patient to pay. This may take a bit more confrontation with the patient but each extended service attached to a fee adds to the bottom line for sure. The third is extended volume. This will require more work, money and time. Basic patient management requires an open ear for the consultation, and open eye for the examination and an open mouth for the report of findings. The quality of time spent is far more important than the quantity. If your quality and quantity was done to perfection and you add a new patient workshop or basic knee to knee education, you have a patient for life who gladly refers and helps you network in your community and their world. This is the way to get referrals, maintenance patients and extend your daily volume level. New patients from other sources require some form of advertising and/or public relations. There is limited room in this e-mail to discuss this but cost effectiveness and strategic planning is a must.
