12-5-01 The Scoliosis Care Foundation, Inc. Founded on April 23, 2001 has received its non- profit status from the IRS and is able to accept tax-deductible donations. Gary A. Deutchman, D.C. practicing New York City Chiropractor since 1986 has created the Scoliosis Care Foundation in a move to connect chiropractic to this disease on a much larger level than presently being done. Dr. Deutchman has been working with Dr. Arthur Copes of Baton Rouge Louisiana for 5 years. Dr. Copes is a Orthotist that has created a state of the art dynamic brace that works in conjunction with the Scoliosis Treatment And Recovery System developed by him.. The STRS system recognizes Idiopathic Scoliosis as a multi faceted disease that compromises five of the bodies systems; osseous, neurological, digestive, hormonal and muscular. The treatment is accomplished by a Copes trained Chiropractor combining chiropractic with nutritional testing and special procedures for spine centering, strengthening and reeducation. This combination of care has reversed Idiopathic Scoliosis for many children and adults, thus preventing unnecessary surgery. Dr. Deutchman¼s web site www.scoliosiscorrection.com has attracted patients of all ages from all over the world that have just been diagnosed with severe scoliosis and typically are faced with a rod surgery within a few weeks. Dr. Deutchman said „ working with this disease for the past 5 years has opened my eyes to the antiquated and truly harmful way that scoliosis has been treated. I felt it was my duty as a chiropractor to step up and help chiropractic take ownership of this disease so people have a choice rather than being scared into a surgery that might leave them with complications they hadn¼t planned on.¾ Richard Nunziata, D.C.,CCSP a trustee for the foundation said „ it¼s time that people become aware of the options for Scoliosis treatment, the orthopedic community has not informed surgical candidates of the non surgical options available from chiropractors.¾ The Mission of the Scoliosis Care Foundation, Inc. is to 1) Support the non-surgical correction of Idiopathic Scoliosis 2) Research the cause of Idiopathic scoliosis 3) Develop recommended treatment protocols 4) Research how to detect Scoliosis at the pre- symptomatic stage 5) Train healthcare professionals internationally on the methods of early detection and correction 6) Develop a training facility for doctors and other authorized health care professionals, 7) Create a public awareness campaign to inform people of the signs and symptoms and prevalence of Idiopathic Scoliosis for early detection purposes 8) Support current and ongoing research in the areas of genetics, biomechanics, bioenergetics and nutrition as it pertains to Scoliosis. 9) To create an endowment fund to offset treatment costs for scoliosis patients.
