From: Dr. Margolies .. 4-29-04 www.chirosmart.net Note: I continue to receive e-mails asking how to post items for sale or for positions as an associate or independent contractor. First .. there is never a charge. Just keep it short and send it to me by Wednesday. It also has to be chiropractic oriented and not a multi-level program or to resale products. I have full authority to edit it and hold no responsibility for products or positions bought or taken via these postings. I just cut and paste it within my weekly newsletter. Due to space limitations .. I am unable to repeat postings. If an item continues to be available you can repost it in another eight weeks. I do keep a year¼s worth of postings on my webpage under Previous Postings and many DC¼s visit there often. Congratulations: For the past few months I've been asking those requesting I post something to consider a donation to my local orchestra. We are in debt due to the downsizing of many corporate and individual grants. To make it easy and affordable I requested a small donation of $25 for starters but many have paid more with some over $200. To date my little pledge drive has raised over $2300. Our recent concert programs have a statement of thanks to the nationwide chiropractic profession who have contributed to the orchestra. I thank those that have contributed and hope that if you haven¼t you will find it fulfilling to write a check and send it along. $25 won¼t break the bank but will go along way towards helping ours. Please give this some thought. Here is the information and if you are reading this e-mail within the 32 countries it goes to .. please send an international money order or check .. it would be great to make it a worldwide chiropractic support effort. A little culture with each adjustment can¼t hurt. Please begin your charitable contributions at $25 but more would be welcomed and ask them for a receipt to be used for tax purposes. You can visit their website at: www.dekalbsymphony.com. Please send your checks c/o: Dekalb Symphony Orchestra, PO Box 1313, Tucker, Georgia 30085. Note on the check .. donation via Dr. Margolies. I do appreciate this and hope you will come through during our financial pinch. If you live in the metro Atlanta area come to our next two Saturday Picnic Concerts. May 1 at 7 PM at the Decatur Courthouse Square and May 8 at 7 PM at Stone Mountain Village. Bring a blanket and a picnic basket and enjoy an evening of fun music. Hessco Tables E-mail message this week .. New Patients Do I have your attention since the buzzword "new patients" usually garners interest. The focus of this e-mail will be the care and feeding of new patients rather than how to get them. Every consultant and seminar guru promises the secrets of acquiring new patients offering instructors the full attention they deserve but ears and eyes dim way down when the same instructor discusses patient and practice management. Just get me the new ones and I¼ll take it from there. Right .. leave new patients in the hands of the average doctor borders on flagrant malpractice. The average Joe or Jane DC usually goes with the flow hoping for the best .. their staff is reflective of practice leadership and without a strong rudder maneuvering the direction the practice sways with the moment. The patient is left with questions .. resists doctor recommendations and falls behind on their bill. Professional vendors view the DC as wildebeests ready to be pounced on and ripe for the taking. Just mention how this toy or that piece of space age equipment attracts new patients or generates a windfall of cash and your checkbook flies right out of your pocket. Leave it to the average DC and new patients will dictate their schedule .. manipulate the manipulator and tell you what is best for them. You might get lucky and trip on a new patient that has vision and understands the matrix of wellness and requests chiropractic be part of their regime. You might get lucky and have a strong staff person that takes the reins from you and sets the mechanics of patient management in motion. If you are really lucky your new patient has the rabbit syndrome .. they continue to multiply. Luck has no relevancy when new patients are involved. Skillful thought and following time tested patient and practice guidelines is the answer to new patient and lack luster practice numbers. Try this: Have your CA compile a list of your last 25 new patients. Determine how many are still active .. how many followed your recommendations .. how many have long since left .. how many left without your knowledge or attention .. how many referred someone .. how many attended your new patient class .. if you even give them .. how many stopped care due to money .. lack of proper education .. not responded as they expected or any variety of reasons. Use this list during your next staff meeting .. if you even have them .. and discuss each name .. determine their status .. at what point did they stop care .. why did they drop out .. did anyone contact them or discuss their concerns. Use this opportunity to discuss tweaking patient and practice procedures .. role play proper scripts .. discuss outstanding service ethics. Were all patient questions answered .. financial concerns met .. did they receive a proper report of findings .. a schedule of care .. an opportunity to support their care and whatever you feel needs to be anchored stronger. New patients are the lifeblood of our business but providing the service necessary to get them well and assisting them during stabilization and rehabilitation and maintenance is as important. Don't be overwhelmed acquiring new ones when they leave as soon as you get them. Establish the proper protocols to service them correctly and from that acorn a tree shall grow.
