From: Dr. Margolies Sorry, I¼ve been tardy in getting this new message out. As you may know, I am moving my office after being in the same place for over 19 years. During the past nineteen years, I¼ve struggled, as we all do in the beginning, to establish a practice, grow a family, maintain a semblance of comfort, and save for my retirement, etc. With all this, I¼ve kept my head above water during the slow times and went with the flow when times were good. It¼s not easy to maintain a business while the same time being a doctor, father and spouse. But .. the challenge and end results make it more than worth it. And, I satisfied with what I have accomplished to date. So .. after all these years why did I move? .. the answer is easy .. I will own this new place. It¼ll be mine and the equity in it is an investment for me and for my children¼s future .. it¼ll be a place I can continue to grow in. I always dreaded renewing my lease .. asking for repairs, etc. While always being in a free standing bldg., probably 1200 sq. ft. afforded me the feeling of ownership .. (not next to a restaurant or dry cleaners in a strip mall) .. but free space .. a place for people to park and come just for me. This free feeling was terribly offset when I realized I had no control of the future as my lease and ability to stay could be challenged by someone else. This will be no more. I purchased the building of a chiropractic friend, she graduated with me and just recently retired. I purchased the bldg. from her .. she is the mortgage lender and holder .. I¼ll pay her off in ten years and the rest will be history .. along with the deed! But, her bldg. was too small .. maybe 1000 sq. feet. so we contracted someone to expand it by 14 feet and renovate a good deal of her existing bldg . (had to conform to disability codes, etc.) pave the parking area for at last 20 cars and by this coming Wednesday (Sept. 3, 1997) we¼ll open up in our new place .. 4910 LaVista Road, Tucker, Georgia 30084. Y¼all come by and take a peek .. ya hear. (That¼s southern for „come on by¾ .. not bad for a born and bred Brooklyn guy) So .. the e-mail message today is two fold .. one be in control .. even at this late stage of my career ... you can make a change for the better .. never say never and .... two .. be prepared to create from nothing something. Yes, even though the new office is less than two miles from where I presently am .. the new office allows me to create new awareness for my active , inactive and prospective new patients. Example: We had the opportunity this past weekend (perfect timing) to be a part of a yearly „Block Party¾ called Tucker Day. Although I paid for a space and placed a table for „screenings¾ (there were three other DC¼s doing the same), we were the only ones walking about and handing specific papers of information about us .. about them .. about our programs .. about our Community Appreciation Day. I got the names of two teachers and will set up classes for their students and hopefully the PTA .. I met the editor of the new Tucker Newsletter .. told him what I can do to assist him .. met a few new retailers and invited them to my new office .. in other words .. besides the typical screening .. touch and tell which we did .. we went out shook hands and as a good politician .. went for it. Now that¼s the beginning of a Smart Start. Oh yes, we had letters prepared to send to these people immediately as well as others that we are sending as I¼m writing this. Okay, below is a few letters that were prepared for them. First a letter to my established patient¼s who have been with me for over 10 years. I am sending them something special the letter was sent on a rose imaged page. The second letter was to the people who came to our booth on Tucker day and filled out our survey, and the third is one we are sending to our retail shops after a review of our „farm¾ and the logging of names and addresses. Okay, next time I write a message .. it¼ll be from the new place. Keep on keeping on Dr. M Okay .. here are the letters: Dear Friends, By now you know we will be leaving our office on Lawrenceville Highway after nineteen years and moving to a renovated and new building on LaVista Road. I am writing this letter for two reasons. One, I appreciate your confidence and trust as you have been patient¼s of mine for many many years. I want you to know that this has meant a great deal to me. With the changes in healthcare and insurance coverage it is rare to find patient¼s remaining with their doctors .. the fact that you have grown with me says a lot. I hope to see you and those you refer for many many years to come. Second to tell you why I¼ve moved. At first, every dime I accumulated paid for student and new office loans. Later, when things seemed to settle down, I asked to purchase our office building on Lawrenceville Hwy. many times but was never successful. It needs repairs and I dreaded asking to renew a lease every two years .. especially when, at one point, I was asked to leave. So .. and luckily .. a good friend and chiropractic colleague, Dr. Betty Smith, decided to hang up her hands and retire from chiropractic. She approached me to purchase her building and that¼s what I did .. but .. it was too small and parking would have been worse than where we were. So .. we bit the bullet and added 14 feet to the building and renovated some of what existed and paved enough parking for over 20 cars. The new building will have a comfortable reception area, an enlarged therapy room for the „rolling tables,¾ a larger and lighter examination room, an additional consultation room, as well as a larger office for me to throw more papers around. It¼ll be a great step up for us all. In addition to these new additions, we plan on implementing more educational programs. Since 1985, we have provided various workshops to local corporations regarding ergonomics .. „fitting the employee to their workstation.¾ These programs help employees sustain a full days work without constant wear and tear and helps prevent such problems as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, TMJ, Chronic Sprain and Strains, as well as Headaches. This has also been very useful for everyday living .. such as cleaning your home and working around the garden. We have also been active with civic and church groups. Our „Over Fifty or Aging Gracefully¾ programs have been a great success. Other programs such as Exercise and Nutrition, Stress Management and Wellness into the 21st Century have been offered and well received by local Women¼s and Garden Clubs as well as a variety of churches. One fun program is for school children. We have a program concerning the spine as well as health and wellness. This is great for your child¼s elementary class or your home school group meetings. There has never been a charge for these programs and I hope you¼ll tell others to contact us if the need arises. In other words .. a doctor is a teacher and this, as well as applying the adjustment, is our purpose. So in conclusion, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart as we end one chapter and turn the page towards the next. You have been part of my foundation and as any engineer would tell you .. the foundation keeps the building upright. We¼re opening Wednesday, September 3rd .. our phone number remains the same. Have a Great Day and I¼ll see you in our new office Joel E.
