Continuing education credit opportunity E-mail message this week .. Inventory your menu of services One of the topics during my recent classes at the Fernandez Seminar was Looking for Hidden Income. How about it .. wouldn't you like to find extra financial resources in your office that include legitimate services and products that are often overlooked or rarely discussed? I would think so. Within the bounds of your philosophical and technical prowess you have an arsenal of helpful and rehabilitating items to consider. But first you must create a menu for yourself and your patients. A restaurant menu is a useful tool to choose a few items as appetizers a bountiful entrČe and a scrumptious dessert .. a complete meal. So too when approaching your patients care .. have them also take an interest in their care and your global plan to assist and rehabilitate them by providing your recommendations and elective services as a menu .. call it an extended report of findings. The purpose of the menu is to encourage financial growth with one pillar of practice management. There are only three ways or pillars of practice financial management to acquire an income as a chiropractor. They are volume of patients .. services rendered and fees. Is there another way? Okay .. within these parameters the easiest way to increase income is to raise your fees. An extra dollar or two per service and per patient over the months adds up. Although easy to implement it pokes at many doctors comfort zone. Acquiring and maintaining a healthy practice base of patients also adds to the kitty but with volume comes extra work and increased overhead a need for a stronger level of commitment and the inevitable patient and staff rejection and headaches. New patients usually cost in time and money spent acquiring them. Although volume appreciably increases other statistics it is always comes with hard but satisfying work. Therefore the next avenue to look at is services. Services are by far your best avenue to explore. They are necessary .. useful .. appreciated and clinically accepted. All you have to do is inventory what you have and what you need and what to charge and create your menu of services or products and introduce them as either a necessary part of their care or an elective recommendation. In case you are in a fog about services and products consider this. They include examination and management time .. x-rays .. adjustments .. adjunctive therapy .. allied diagnostic services .. office and home orthopedic and rehabilitative devices and supports .. nutritional supplementation and much more. Of these .. have you inventoried what you have and how often you recommend them? These are items that benefit many but are often overlooked in the hectic pace of a busy practice or the myopic vision of a slow practice too cautious to stock and recommend these useful and beneficial products. Also .. does your office provide educational programs? If you wish to generate new patients and add to the matrix of financial success you must provide enough information to spike the interest of your community and patients. Workshops are a great tool and also considered a community service. Begin to inventory your patients and community with timely surveys. Ask them if they would attend specific classes oriented to stress management and ergonomics. Do they have networking possibilities where they work or attend church or civic functions to guide you toward the proper person for setting up these workshops and community events. By the way .. if you need help promoting your office .. I recommend you consider my three inexpensive books. Chiropractic Marketing and Public Relations .. Workshop Workbook or Personal Injury Workbook. Each are $25 and chock full of ideas to implement immediately.
