Lyceum This weekend I'll attend the Life University Lyceum, first to get my hours for license renewal as well as meet and greet many friends I've attended school, conventions, seminars and e-mails with. As many of us have found from attending these events, more is learned in the hallways than in the classroom. Just walking around with an open ear in earshot of various discussions may open the door to persistent problems that have plagued your practice or patient control. Asking questions to knowledgeable colleagues usually solves your chronic issues that can stop progress either with patient results or practice management. Someone in a room of hundreds has walked the same path as you and either has found solutions on their own or know of avenues you can travel as well. Just ask and be surprised at the gifts others can extend and share with you. Likewise, be observant to the novice amongst you possibly too intimidated to ask but has a well full of concerns that can be handled with just a few encouraging words of advice. As I've said before, sharing I caring. Also, yearly conventions and homecomings can be used as a barometer of how well you have done year to year. Rather than being critical of failure, strive towards success by reaching to others for advice or to reaffirm your goals and action steps. Rather than looking from afar to those you feel are achievers, close ranks with them by being amongst them. Emulate their postiveity and utilize their policies that keep them on purpose. These events are safe havens to seek such solace as their time and energy is usually spread amongst many and they are more apt to share without the time restraints attached at their professional seminars. You can also consolidate your professional life by questioning the vendors as they ply their wares. Here is a symbiotic relationship if there ever was one. We need them and they need us. Out of respect and an appreciation of their professional anxiety and purpose of attending, like us at a health fair or spinal screening, spend a moment or two asking what they have displayed. Many of our vendors have also had their ears to the profession and may have a trove of ideas that could answer many of your questions. These weekends should not be wasted but utilized to the fullest as it was intended to be. Have a Great Day Dr. M PS: I met with Dr. David Scheiner the author of a new chiropractic book, "Chiropractic Revealed." After reading a few chapters, I can heartedly recommend every doctor purchase it and study the thoughts of the many successful chiropractors he questioned. The book is a compilation of ideas, goals, aspirations and professional realities from some of our best. This is the essence of a Homecoming, a Convention or a Weekend Seminar. Picking the minds of those who have achieved and working with their reality to make your professional life a huge success.
