The common thread amongst most Lost viewers is the disappointment or disconnect between this seasons episodes. Creating an affinity with cast members and the varied themes on the island, not to mention the Others and the lack of screen time for many of our original favorites, you have a feeling of being lost with Lost. Now, how many of your patients feel that way in your office? New patients hurdle through their skepticism and fears of chiropractic before making their call to your office. They walk over your threshold to be welcomed by friendly staff, a caring doctor, reading material to fill their void of knowledge and a clear explanation of what to expect and how they may feel, a perfect new patientıs orientation and experience. Then routine sets in visit by visit. They come as scheduled, as great patients do but between the excitement of the first few visits they often get lost in the routine and lose the spark that generates referrals and creates a maintenance patient with years of returned visits and the office staff usually treats them with less enthusiasm then when they were new. Patients see other patients as the Others and whether they express it or not, often get lost in the complacency of our routine and lost in the shuffle. Obviously this may not apply to your office but give it thought, does the spark of newness and excitement leave your new patients and staff quickly or do you maintain patient momentum with each visit sensing it from them as well. Holiday themes, new posters, fresh ideas, flower displays or just chiro talk to everyone keeps the edge alive in simple but subtle ways. If you have read this far or read this e-mail in one of the 32 countries it reaches weekly and have no idea what an episode of Lost is, no fret. This very popular television show brings together a variety of people with varied conflicts on a secluded island after their plane crashed. The momentous mysteries thrown us week by week was stifled with regretful repeats and an ill conceived hiatus for months that the producers thought was a wise idea. Surveys indicated they were losing viewers and the excitement generated with discussions at the next morningıs water cooler was lukewarm at best. The producers heard the message and hopefully will heed it as well. The positive momentum, excitement, challenge and water cooler discussions concerning chiropractic and your office must start with the patients first and carry through to their last scheduled visit. The excitement towards proactive healthcare generated during your educational and knee on knee discussions and workshops stimulates their on-going approach towards maintenance care and referrals of the Others.
