Masters Seminar and New Beginnings Philosophy Weekend seminars in January E-mail message this week: Letting Go of Baggage Baggage is tough to carry if you are already loaded down. During this holiday season spend a few moments searching through your baggage to both lighten your load and find room to stuff more. This is the perfect time to reflect on your personal and professional baggage and determine what needs to go and what can be enhanced for this New Year. Give this some thought .. let's start a mini review. If you have been creative your practice probably has maintained itself or expanded in patient services and volume. If you waited only for the phone to ring and sat diligently with great adjusting skills .. examination procedures bar none .. x-ray analysis as good a Roentgen himself .. best new patient introductory videos money could buy .. notes taken from numerous weekend seminars and phone bills to attest for multiple consulting hours and never implemented .. you probably have been frustrated. Yes .. skills are acquired and adds to your professional knowledge and hones your level of competence even greater .. but it too can accumulate like unused baggage .. often it does. If your personal life has many incomplete cycles .. such as trying to but never losing weight (too much baggage in the wrong physiological places) .. promising to work out and never getting around to it .. eating reactively rather than healthily .. complaining about personal relationships but never taking the time to stop .. think .. then react .. knowing there are many roads to cross but stare at the junction and never go forward .. carry past burdens that probably could have been tossed years ago but has been part of you too long to let go .. if these apply to you (I suspect all of us) .. then there is much baggage to open .. rearrange .. toss lots out .. and literally lighten your load. We are coming to a New Year .. almost a new century .. a perfect time for change. I know you've heard the phrase "a cry from the wilderness." A lonely cry for either help or companionship. If you want to lighten your load .. start by listening to that voice within. Take a moment or two .. sit in a quiet place .. relax and close your eyes .. listen ........ Was there static .. was the signal clear .. did you have to change position for better reception? If you are a meditator .. you know what it took to finally reach that area of peace within. First it starts with sitting quietly .. inwardly chanting your mantra .. clearing your surface thoughts and by its very nature peeling away baggage until you reach quiet .. a place to nurture your inner child .. a place to rest .. heal .. rejuvenate .. renew. If you never meditate .. say daily affirmations .. ask for divine guidance with prayer .. or in other words .. find time to connect you with your universe .. you probably live by the moment and find that each moment comes too soon. Let's make a pledge to clean the mess and clear the air for our New Year. Concentrate on creating a personal and professional purpose. A purpose is kept on track because you have created specific policies to keep you on purpose. Write these down .. find the areas that need spot adjusting and those that need radical change. Toss out the programs that didn't work .. the promises that weren't kept .. the incomplete cycles that added frustration and caused you to vent .. get rid of this baggage today. Visualize purging and tossing these unwanted negatives .. make room for more (at least they'll be room without compressing more where no room exists). Write action steps and place a timeline next to them. Do you want to change your eating habits .. okay .. what exactly will you do (write it down) .. how will you change .. who will help you .. how can you implement it .. what specifically will make it easier to implement .. who are you accountable to .. is there a way to measure results (by the way .. don't get hung up on results yet .. action will motivate results) .. have you devised a plotting system to track progress .. is there a built in reward for achieving your goal? Be careful to make these goals easy to reach .. baby steps is the way to go. In practice .. spend time reviewing what you did this year. Have you been active or reactive .. has your phone rang with new patients because you created awareness for yourself or just by luck .. are your staff team players or do they hold you back .. has the time spent in seminars and consulting paid off or are you not implementing .. has there been a consistent stop in your progress in one area or other? Review this and like the paragraph above create changes. But can you do it? Are you able to let go of that old stale baggage? Can you purge yourself of inner rut? Can you look in the mirror and make peace with yourself and set a plan to improve even more? Will you release any frustration and fear and plot a new course? .. you can. Take this time to clean out your inner closets .. empty your baggage .. make room for more. Be creative in '99 and let others worry about what was .. you have decided to make each day count. In 1999 we can plan together a renewed spirit towards our personal and professional lives. So let go of that old crude and purge yourself of past fears and frustrations. Consolidate your thoughts and sharpen your creative juices .. if you let go .. get rid of some baggage .. you will begin the new journey lighter .. quicker on our feet .. and ready to rock and roll in 1999. Okay here is the post concerning work visas: Concerning the status of work visas for Americans/foreigners in Spain, as far as we are aware there are a couple of ways to aquire a work visa: Invest aproximately $100,000 in a bank in Spain and apply for the work visa on your own (ie:independent of a sponser in Spain) Be contracted for employment by an existing business in Spain. This grants you a work visa for one year, after which you may renew your existing work contract with the same company and likewise the work visa. Or, after the one year contract has expired, you may start your own business and apply for a renewal of the work visa independently. Marilyn Gard from ClinicPro (the computer office software company and ChiroStore the interenet chiropractic supply house) has sent this updated information for our review. The following codes were deleted for use in 1999 (terminology is from the CPT code book): 97122 Manual traction 97250 Myofascial release/soft tissue mobilization 97260 Manipulation by physician, one area 97261 Manipulation by physician, each additional area 97265 Joint mobilization, one or more areas The following code were added: 97140 Manual therapy techniques (eg, mobilization/manipulation, manual lymphatic drainage, manual traction), one or more regions, each 15 minutes If you are currently billing for manual traction (97122) and/or myofascial release (97250), you would substitute 97140 in 1999. Our old standby, 97260, has finally bitten the dust! Since 97260 covers one area, it would correlate to the CMT code, 98940. Since 97261 covers each additional area, the corresponding CMT code would be 98941. 97265 would be replaced by 98943. As a refresher, the chiropractic manipulative treatment codes (CMT) were instituted in 1998. The CMT codes are graduated depending on the number of areas of the spine being adjusted. There are five distinct areas defined: cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacrum, and pelvis. Your fee for the service should also be graduated with 98940 being lower than 98941. They are described as follows: 98940 CMT, 1-2 areas 98941 CMT, 3-4 areas 98942 CMT, 5 areas 98943 CMT, extraspinal (includes head, temporomandibular joint, upper extremities, lower extremities, rib cage) These billing changes brought to you by Clinic Pro Software, http://www.clinicpro.com/?changes and ChiroStore, http://www.chirostore.com/cccsem.htm If you visit ChiroStore, you can print the complete notice for your staff.
