Tip of the Week From Dr. Len Schwartz and Chiropower Enterprises, LLC drlen@chiropowerinc.com Letting them figure it out... This week I had a patient return to the office three months after his corrective care ended. Three months ago he decided not to stick around for "maintenance" care. When he started chiropractic care and committed to his corrective care plan (I only accept new patients if they pre-pay and commit to care - and you should too!) he was a little unsure as to whether chiropractic care could help him. Well, his corrective care ended, (he did very well) and so did his time in my office. He stopped coming in because he thought his pain was gone forever, and thought his body could function at that level for life. He is a golfer and had noticed increased range of motion, longer drives, increased energy, his sinuses were better, and so on. But after only three months without chiropractic care, these benefits began to disappear. He finally realized that he needed to get adjusted on a regular basis again. Whenever a patient leaves, I feel so compelled to call them and/or write them letters to let them know about their BIG mistake. BUT, there is a little voice in my head that always stops me. Sometimes, the more you push, the further away they go. After all, you can only educate so much. Here's the Tip: When a patient like this comes back to the office (and let's face it...so many do), you have an opportunity to let a patient tell you why they need to be adjusted for life. By asking them questions about their energy, or changes in their health, before and after chiropractic care...or what they've noticed since they decided to stop getting adjusted, you let them tell you why they are going to get adjusted for life. As anxious as you are to talk - just listen! -and let them tell you! Have a great week! For the LOVE of Chiropractic, Dr. Len
