Keep It Simple As is par for my course, I tweaked again my New Patient workshop and was pleased with the flow after last night's class. I simply used the Powerpoint presentation to introduce the patients with or to them self. When was the last time you purchased a hefty priced high tech item or a new vehicle without devouring the manual to learn all the tricks, all the buttons and whistles. No way will you spend all that dough without using every last benefit. Too bad our personal written manual is non-existent. We literally pop out into this world dependent on others with less knowledge than ourselves. We are our own. So finally allow your patients an opportunity to learn about their own buttons and whistles. A bit about their body's systems and the interplay between them with built in communications that is way beyond anything man made. Use illustrations to visually demonstrate the intricate nervous system, I use, with great audience amazement, Visual Odyssey 800-541-4449 or 770-646-8031. Watch how it works, visit their website: http://atthespeedofsight.com/NP2006/index.htm The patient must be made aware that they are but a vessel for their perfect very hi-tech machine and as with any machine, wear and tear and poor communicated and coordinated parts, creates havoc and poor performance. Illustrate that there is a greater purpose for their body than a receptacle for food. Any finer tuned illustrative program showing the relationship between function and structure works so much better whether in on a computer, LCD screen or written. Again, if you use a Visual Odyssey Neuropatholator as a stand alone, one on one demonstrator or within your lecture, it takes the legwork out of impressing the patient with facts. A picture, especially such a visual picture as the Visual Odyssey software or the wall mounted Neuropatholator makes it so simple that the patient gets it without you trying so hard to sell the grand idea. They finally see what a marvelous and miraculous machine is within them. Your report of findings should also be lasting with take home factual literature, I use the booklets from Koren publications: www.korenpublications.com These and other educational websites can be found within my webpage: www.chirosmart.net and use the link: weblinks As chiropractors, we are charged with educating our community and patients with the various stress factors confronting our very existence. Whether it be work related, post trauma as in falls, collisions and sports exertion or the reality of the subluxation, keeping the idea simple and having them repeat your conclusions base on science will grow your practice expotentially. Exploit reality with visuality but make it simple. Have a Great day Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
